There were a lot of hits in the 1970's that would be illegal today. The size of players has increased which cancels that effect. Herschel would be great playing today and would adapt as needed.

The game was much more physical in walkers day. It’s a finesse game today. It wasn’t unusual at all for a back to carry it 30 times in the 80s. With advancements in training walker would be 6-2 and around 250-260 pounds and run 4.5. He would be a specimen like he was then.

I doubt it. When Hershel was playing, he was the size of a typical running back now, but D linemen were tiny. A friend of mine played on Georgia's line in the 70's and his playing weight was 200 pounds.

You can give today's athletes the benefit of 40 years worth of advancements in nutrition and training but not Herschel? I kinda think Herschell would have access to all the same stuff that is turning kids into 250-300 lb players that would have been 200 lbs 40 years ago.

I meant early 80's. Nevertheless, he is 60 years old and we are talking over 40 years ago. Can you go get the gymnastics coach's take on whether Babe Ruth could have hit today's pitching and would he have hit more homeruns?
