Alabama head coach Nick Saban Has No Plans On Redshirting QB Jalen Hurts...
Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports
A lot of people thought Alabama head coach Nick Saban was going to redshirt QB Jalen Hurts due to the quick emergence of QB Tua Tagovailoa. But that ain't happening, folks...
quote:

“It’s the same as it’s always been, to use them both,” Saban told ESPN’s Chris Low on Thursday. “It evolves a little bit as you go. Our team has evolved. I can’t tell you exactly how it all will play out. It’s going to be whoever helps our team play the best, and they’ve both played a role in doing that.”
...

“I don’t know of any other precedent at any time in college football where a guy started 28 games, won 26 of them and then somebody took his place. That’s never happened. So that’s hard for Jalen, and it’s hard for me. I’m a loyal guy and loyal to the guys who get out there and lay it on the line for you. You want to be fair to all of your players, but you also want to be fair to your team.

“We needed both quarterbacks last year, and we’ll need them both again this year.”
Should he redshirt Hurts?

Short answer, "No." Saban doesn't want Hurts to quit and transfer in case Tua gets hurt(s) =).

If Jalen wants to transfer to another power school and play AN be benefits by not redshirting. He has ample opportunity to play and improve as a passer this season

Saban wants to use as much of his eligibility as he can since he will be a graduate transfer next year any way

Hurst should of transferred during the off season. He would be starting every game at a lesser school/conference.

Redshirting would only prolong his problem given Tua’s only a sophomore. Also, if he redshirted him, he’d be giving the starting job to Tua. So, what would be the point.

The point is he graduates in December and he would have 2 more years to play at the school he transfers to. If he does not redshirt he only has 1 year. Because of graduate transfer rule he is eligible immediately.

The title says the midget talks about redshirting Hurts. The article never mentions it.
