Why? Most veteran RB on the team. Always been underrated. Doesn't cost the sun, moon and stars. Fits the offense great and knows it as well as anyone not names Brees or Payton.

I hope Ingram gets more touches, as well as Khiry, but IMO Thomas was important to keep moreso than Sproles

Probably frees up some cap space this year and he will likely retire as a Saint. Love me some PT!

Seals a spot in Saints Ring of Honor

One of the greatest "team" players in Saints history.

Good, you may find a guy in the draft who could replace his hands but I seriously doubt you find a guy who is also going to run well inside as well as pick up blitzes.

Why? Will he be too old at the end of the extension? Because I can't think of a back I trust more to make a play than PT over the last several years.

I like it. He's slowing down, but he's still the best pass blocking and receiving back.

I know what you mean. However, this is a positive move for several reasons: Thomas is still productive and it's not bad to show loyalty to a player who is still contributing.

We live in a FA world and I think you do get some mileage out of that with the mid to lower level FAs.

I've always PT isn't the fastest, strongest, or quickest but for some reason that SOB is slippery as greased owl shite. He just slips thru tackles like it's nothing sometimes.

And it's not like he's worn down due to being overworked

I'm excited, would hate to see him on any other team. I imagine this extension lowers his cap number too.

You don't like RBs that are good at pass blocking, running screens, that catch the ball well out of the backfield, that provide a veteran presence, that run hard, and that come with a cheap contract?

iirc, reports right before playoff games said that he wasn't too injured, but benched due to production decrease in the run game.

I love PT as much as anyone, but he's going to be 33ish when he's done with the contract. He's a great do-it-all back, but his production slowly declined as the year went on. My fear is that it stays on the decline.

SP said he wanted to return back to the power run game and I just don't think PT is the best one of the 3 RBs to do that. Add on the fact that making PT the starter/ingram spotter it could result in being the same predictable offense (i.e. ingram in = run)
