Couldn't agree more.

This extension should wrap up his career and it's nice to know he was a Saint from start to finish!!

Definitely don't hate this, but it's obviously a move to lower his cap number.

SP said he wanted to return back to the power run game and I just don't think PT is the best one of the 3 RBs to do that. Add on the fact that making PT the starter/ingram spotter it could result in being the same predictable offense (i.e. ingram in = run)
When did Sean say that? It has been speculated, but I do not think he ever stated that. The extension was likely one whereby his salary gets turned into a bonus to stretch it out. I doubt he will play the last year of the deal when he is 32.

My guess is that it reduces his cap number by a good bit, and also still makes him very cuttable in a year or two.

False. Part of the power run game and a balanced offense is being able to set up good screens. PT is the best screen back in the league hands down, and I'll take that to the bank.

I'm not quite sure why people are so down on PT. Dude does everything average or better.

Great player, person and Saint. He started here, and I want to see him finish here. He still plays well, and he is the one player I didn't want to see leave of all the ones that are going. Sproles should've been traded last season (as I so wisely stated at this time last year), but PT must stay

This is great news. Best blocking back we have, that's for sure. He will probably be much more limited in his role the next two years than last two. Ingram and Robinson are taking over.

I think this is a good move considering Ingram only came on for a few games. If Ingram reverts back to being garbage at least you got Pierre. His balance, ability to slip the tackle and fall forward will alaways be good for 4 yards... regardless of speed

iirc, reports right before playoff games said that he wasn't too injured, but benched due to production decrease in the run game.

Not saying you're wrong, and PT definitely had a rough stretch at the end of last season, but I don't remember any reports saying he was benched due to production.

I don't think anything not to like about this deal. We keep our most veteran, and versatile RB, and most likely are saving cap space.

I love PT but at the end of last season both Ingram and Robinson were more effective. Idk if he just wore down or was nicked up but he looked very slowed. I still think he can play a role for us because of his versatility but I'd like to see the priority of the ground game move towards the younger guys. Still glad we are hanging on to an all time great Saint though

Fits the role of a third down back at this stage of his career and he can serve as a mentor to our younger backs. You need veteran leadership.

I wouldn't be surprised to see PT with 80+ catches next year though. I think Payton and Loomis realized that Sproles and PT played the same role in the offense and got rid of the expensive one that's only been here a few years. Now I think you'll have Ingram and Robinson with majroity of runs and PT and Cadet/rookie as the pass catching options.

i think it was during pre-game talk. I could be wrong, I'll admit if I am.

I'm not anti-PT in any way.

I just thought with Ingram/Robinson showing us so much during the playoffs, we would've saved money by not having to keep a 2-3mil back and use that money elsewhere. Cutting him this year resulted in 0 dead money and 2.9mil in cap.

Dude runs really hard, and as you age you don't recover as quickly. A reduced role focusing more on the passing game might allow him to play at a higher level for the full season.
