re: Worse talent level in Payton era - Patrick O Rly
Teams would love a right tackle like Strief. He is undervalued. ...
I think LE has it right. If EVERYTHING goes right, this team could win 10 games. But, the list is long...
With last years schedule, I would agree, but this years schedule is rather favorable, and the division is still weak. ...

re: Worse talent level in Payton era - Patrick O Rly
That's what this entire thread is about. It's a question of whether or not the overall talent on this team is the worst in the Payton era. Brees has been here the entire time. But, the surrounding talent seems lower this year than it has been.
I disagree. Outside of Brees, I...

re: Worse talent level in Payton era - Patrick O Rly
It's unfavorable relative to the good teams in the league. In fact, like another poster said, if you traded Brees for say a Carson Palmer, this would be a 2-3 win team.
But how is that really an argument? If we didn't have this really talented player, who will be a first ballet H...

re: Worse talent level in Payton era - Patrick O Rly
The FO philosophy needs to change as far as player acquisitions. More emphasis needs to be put on the draft, rather than free agency. Having rookies contribute on a rookie contract is a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, it hasn't happened very frequently for us recently.
I completel...

re: Worse talent level in Payton era - Patrick O Rly
I think the offense will be outright dominant. I think that's what's lost in this whole debate. It's as if people are assuming that we field one unit, or the other team doesn't have a defense. They're going to have to deal with us. From what I've seen so far of the defense this preseason: -th...

The past drafts have been horrible, but no it's not close to the worst talent level in the Patyon era....

I don't think Porter even played much. Didn't he get hurt early that year? Either way, that defense was bad....

re: Worse talent level in Payton era - Patrick O Rly
No way. Those 2007/2008 teams were so devoid of any defensive talent. We have talent, but it's a lot of inexperienced talent. Dudes can play though....

It all worked out. It came at the right time, because shortly afterwards we began the process of packing and getting ready to sell our house and move, so I benefited from one less distraction. ...

Me too. That was a grand embarrassment. However, expectations were pretty low this year, so I'm not sure why people are freaking out. ...

255 in the air isn't too bad, especially considering it was mostly backups playing. Bottom line we're really not going to have a clue until after a couple of games. ...

re: Starting D against the Cardinals. - Patrick O Rly
That could change once they do some actual film study and scheming. In preseason they have somethings they want to see, like how does this certain formation work against the run, or we know the strengths of the secondary, but will this coverage be a viable option for us?...
