Will pass on occasion but we just get wood seeing a Mallard these days. Usually they die.

I will shoot at a hen if she is coming in with a group. A single coming into the decoys, maybe not. If there are other ducks flying, would rather drakes.

A pair comes in... I'm shooting the green head. Knock him down, and I'm coming for her.

Single hen... I'll shoot her.

Big group, pick out a greenhead for the first shot, knock him down and I move on to the closet bird in my shooting lane. Hen or drake, doesn't matter.

If there are that many birds and decoying that well then I'll only shoot the drakes.

With that said, I shoot hens always.

This here. I'll shoot the piss out of them if needed to get a limit. On days when there's no need to, well, there's no need to.

Women have come a long way for equal rights, I give them equal steel. Greenhead dies first.

I try not to shoot hens, as they lay the eggs.

But, on an afternoon hunt last year in North Dakota, my good friend who I was hunting with called my name to shoot. Was a banded hen mallard. So, guess I can't be completely against it.

If it's gonna be a Green hunt and you know a photo op is looming, then pass. Nothing sucks worse than a good Mallard kill than seeing brown.

If they have landed and stopped swimming, the drake gets shot first. Then the hen gets hers.

If they are coming in, I shoot the duck closest to me and go out from there.

I should mention that I hunt in beaver ponds so I get approximately .34 seconds to see the duck and shoot.
