Sit in the blind and wait for them to fly by...

usually works best in a lake (i.e. Lake Boeuf) where people shoot a few then go run the birds up

They are quit dumb. They will just swim right by you. Then you wait until you get a big group together and shoot. Had a buddy kill 12 in 3 shots one time.

Tap the blind with a paddle, they get real nervous and bunch up real tight.

A mallard is a mallard on a southeast Louisiana coastal marsh strap, we hammer 'em either way. Now the coots, I only shoot the drakes

not as easy when they have as much hunting pressure on them as we do

So this coot killing, is it a common thing down there?

Ya the only time we shot them like that was when we were in a rice field and there were hundreds of them and hardly any ducks. Other than that I don't ever shoot them.

Honestly, I can't recall the last time I put a bead on a coot (drakes or otherwise ) but know plenty folks that routinely iron out a good flock. Some swear by the meat and/or gizzards for gumbos, etc. Not my thing but it's Louisiana so no shocker there

If you catch the atchafalaya river close to 12 feet at butte Larose, you can blast your limit of pouldeau from I-10 as you cross over Henderson, not that I would reccomend doing it.

For some reason the coonasses above I-10 don't shoot the blackies as much as their southern counterparts

Hunting is meant for meat only, I don't like that we are killing birds based on their color.

I would appreciate if you kept your negative comments away. Belittling someone over an exercising regimen shows how ignorant you are.

You hit the nail on the head with that statement. I never shoot the bastards.

But, on this board everyone north of I-10 is a redneck.

I duck hunt for the sport, not the meat.
