re: Longer Recreational Snapper Season = No Snapper in restaurants - OntarioTiger
CGRAND: See below – while more educated folks in near the Gulf coast may be able to tell – once you get away from the coast not many could tell. Subsititution is rampant and I expect it where I live in the NE, something that says red snapper more often is not. http://www.forbes.com/sites/...

re: OT spinoff thread: the best sounds in the Outdoorsman's world. - OntarioTiger

re: Longer Recreational Snapper Season = No Snapper in restaurants - OntarioTiger
Alx - that is the point at least 30% of what they sell as snapper in restaurants is not snapper they substitute a lower priced fish ... and unsuspecting public doesn't know the difference. Restaurants lie to their customers all the time, just like putting 4 roses in the high dollar bourbon bottle ...

re: Longer Recreational Snapper Season = No Snapper in restaurants - OntarioTiger
Plus at least 30% of the time what they say is "snapper" in a restaurant is basa, tilapia, etc. Pay for high dollar snapper and what you are served is a mystery........

re: What item or equipment do you have a love/hate relationship with? - OntarioTiger
Im good w/ rachet straps – a colleague who was in the 321st Materiel Management Center reserve unit schooled me on how to use them. It seems that when you are in a logistics unit rachet straps are essential, before he showed me I was like the rest of you swinging dicks and I hated them ...

re: Banded ducks you've killed - OntarioTiger
Bands – I have 4 canada geese, 1 mallard, 1 black, 1 redhead and 1 teal Of those 2 have interesting stories – the mallard was a greenhead that was 10 yrs old when I shot him – originally banded in MN. I didn’t know mallards lived that long and he was shot with about 5 min left in legal shooting ti...

re: A sad day to acquire new guns - OntarioTiger
Something else to consider w/ guns and other personal items when someone passes is to have the father/grandpa etc help make some decisions before they pass. Either in the will or in gentlemen agreements w/ the siblings so that there is some equitable division on who gets what and then the parent/gr...

re: Best ammo for deer hunting? - OntarioTiger
Wow, I’m gonna site back and watch this thread – its bad enough when somebody asks what is the best shell/choke combo for ducks (we duck hunters really have just one calibre – 12ga), I can only imagine the opinions out there on calibre, grain size, type ...makes my head spin   ...

re: Rarest duck that you have seen - OntarioTiger
Rarest duck for me would be a Ross’ goose .. essential a petite snow goose bout the size of a mallard. Shot one in the Atch back in the day, pre smartphone etc (so we couldn’t google it to see what it is) we were wondering if a midget snow goose would get us in trouble w/ green jeans. Turns out ...

re: McGill University in Quebec, Canada - OntarioTiger
McGill is a premier university in Canada, it is a top 2 or 3 school in Canada and likely a top 20 school in N America depending on the program. I don’t know how strong the geography dept is and I couldn’t make any alternative suggestions for Geography depts in Canada, its not my area. Overall, its...

re: How much do you shoot? - OntarioTiger
Wow 27 for fiddy ... in great white north it's 12 to a max of 20 for fiddy. But those r at not for profit gun clubs. There is a private range that charges 20 when u step on the property and 10 a round for trap.......
