Why do employees feel the need to take off a month for the holidays?

The world doesn't stop just because it's Christmas and New Years. Maybe if we were more productive and not always wanting to take days off we wouldn't be in the shitter regarding our economy. I'll take Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, NYE, and New Year's Day off, that's pretty reasonable.

You sound miserable. Where I work we're closed on all those days.

I'm taking a week off for Thanksgiving and 2 weeks for Christmas.

Why? Because I can.

Because some people love their families.

Maybe some of us don't live near our families and don't get to go home often during the year. I'm taking two weeks off this xmas and it's the first time I'll have been home since last xmas

It really depends. I work in consulting and things basically come to a crawl in the last weeks of December. My boss and I "work from home" during those weeks.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case. In fact the US is the most productive economy in the world. Where do you find these people that are able to take off a month at a time?

In truth, the world pretty much does stop in my industry, at least briefly. Nobody schedules shite during the holidays.

Yeah that's definitely why the economy has been so terrible for the past few years.

Which is understandable, so why do you need a month off? Do you not love what you do? Work shouldn't be exhausting.
