I don't know anyone that takes a month off for the holidays

when i worked a michoud, the plant would shut down for the last 2 weeks of the year. Sometimes I would save 2 weeks of vacation and get a month off.

Awesome perk of my job.

Maybe if we didn't work as many days a year like most other countries people wouldnt be burned out at the years end.

Because people don't like work. Just work for the government or join the military and you get the most random days off including yesterday and today.

I put in my 2 weeks on Friday because I'm out of vacation for the holidays.

Going to reapply for my position after the 1st.

Mine doesn't either. I have 6 days off in December and those days are my 'weekend'. I'm covering Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and NYE for a coworker with young kids.

You're the manager are you not? Amend the policy so that you have to accrue x hours before they take days. Or hire more people so that you aren't constantly under staffed.

But for crying out loud, don't stalk around like a salty a-hole because your team is using their earned vacation time within the rules of your company.

HR department controls all of that. I can't set different policy for my department, nor can I add headcount without HR approval, which isn't happening.

What percentage do you think "give a shite"?

I have 57 (women) employees. And I would divide them into thirds. A third I would do anything to keep, a third I could take or leave them, and a third I would escort out the door today if I could.

As long as that bottom third exist, and based on recent interviews there is 10 of those to every 1 that goes in the other two categories, those staffing issues are going to exist. But I agree its one of my constant sources of frustration.

I would say a quarter of my staff genuinely cares about the company and its goals. The rest are content to do the minimum and collect a check. The 25% work their asses off so that the other 75% can be slugs and take every second of time off as soon as they accrue it. HR is ok with this since the work is getting done.

fricking right, I'm right there with you. One of my biggest issues as a manager is every single one of my people taking every vacation hour the week the accrue it. We don't get shite done because we are constantly partial staffed. I would give my dick to have a team who cares about this place half as much as I do.

I'm maxed out at 5 weeks of vacations right now, and I acrue 2 days every month. You must have fallen on your head if you think I'm not taking those two days every month.
