When everyone takes off at the same time for long periods of time, it affects the economy

I don't think you know how the economy works.

I am out of the office starting on the Friday after Christmas until the New Year. Granted I will be working remotely some of those day.

The world doesn't stop just because it's Christmas and New Years. Maybe if we were more productive and not always wanting to take days off we wouldn't be in the shitter regarding our economy.

OK, I'll be the one to ask. What is your job where this is such a concern?

You've had plenty of time to come up with a great troll answer so don't waste my time. Wasting potentially productive time is bad for the economy.

No kidding....and this dude is on here saying that the most productive workforce in the world, who takes the least amount of time off is hurting the economy

Good grief.

I'll take Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, NYE, and New Year's Day off, that's pretty reasonable.

Why do you need to take off the day before Christmas and any time for New Year's other than cutting out an hour early on Dec. 31 to beat traffic? You are wasting 32 productive working hours sitting on your arse those three days.

Time off is a good thing. The rest of the world enjoys it. It keeps people from breaking down and allows them to spend extended time with their families.

If you don't like it, don't take your time off.

If you are the boss, don't offer it, but don't be surprised to lose employees to companies that do.

In my industry the work doesn't stop but the decision makers and higher ups that I deal with take off from Thanksgiving until after New Years. No deals are being done during that time, money has all been spent, no new business is happening.

Most of us take that month off to go on vacation with our families, hunt, fish, decompress, etc....I'll still work but not much is going on...mostly just work a few half days a week.

Are you the manager?

If so, the answer is b/c you weren't smart enough to implement a policy that limits consecutive vacation days. My employees are not allowed to take off more than 10 consecutive work days without extenuating circumstances. If you're not the manager, then take the issue up with your boss, not the OT.

That said, it's their vacation, they can take it whenever the hell they want.

Speaking of other threads, OP weren't you planning on taking off for NYC at New Year's? LINK

Or can you not take off because you just started a new job and you're pissed that all the women you work with get to take vacation days? LINK

And who the hell can take off a month of work at a time? A lot of people have problems scheduling more than one week off.

Yeah. It's the fault of all those people going to work all year; that use their earned vacation.

fricking right, I'm right there with you. One of my biggest issues as a manager is every single one of my people taking every vacation hour the week the accrue it. We don't get shite done because we are constantly partial staffed. I would give my dick to have a team who cares about this place half as much as I do.

not sure where you work or what you do but we got Christmas eve off at noon and off all of Christmas day and New years day. The only people that take off longer are usually traveling to see family or vacationing, which is fine.
