Me and mine would have done it peacefully but her friend and cousin told me she was moving all the while telling me that we could go to marriage counseling to see if it could be worked out.
Needless to say I filed and although it was peaceful it wasn't terrible either.
I can tell you this I will never ever set foot anywhere near her house or carry on a conversation that doesn't involve my kids.
Especially after her and her mom made me out to be a stupid, dumb, ignorant, mean, and stubborn person.
Most people think I don't pay my support. The first thing I do each paycheck is get a money order
Her mom called me nothing more than a sperm donor to my face and thinks that she has more rights to my kids than I do.
The best part is I've moved on with someone who actually likes me for me and not use me to get what she wants and then leave.

As time moves on so do we. Glad you are doing alright. My ex mother and law is ok in my book but I will still say she got some bat shite cray cray in her too. Let everyone say what they want all my kids are teens now and guarantee my kids know I am a good father. All that matters

Oddly enough I watched this documentary last night. My ex wife and I never saw the inside of a courthouse. I never paid a penny in child support. I am very thankful we had a good attorney who sat us down and advised us to put what we each wanted on paper. We spent 3-4 hours discussing what we wanted at the kitchen table. If we could agree on everything, he would have it typed out and submitted to the courthouse. $550 and 6th months later I received the divorce paperwork in the mail. Easy as that.

I often think about what the divorce rates will be like for people around my age (22-30). I feel like a ton of people I know are married or engaged. Seems awfully young to be getting married.

Some of the stories in this thread are so depressing. Just glad me and the quasi-ex(still just separated for 7 years)have a decent relationship. Drew all financial and child stuff up together and had a friend file the stuff for free.

This year I've had a lot of friends / acquaintances get engaged or married. Definitely weird to see, especially the girls that I know were total whores before they found "the one"

Unfortunately many young people in this country still fall into well I am done with college now what? Time to settle down. Times have changed no need to rush and there are plenty of women and men out there. Live life get a good job travel, frick randoms ( my thoughts ), enjoy life. I'm 27 and still have no fricking idea what I want out of life--and I have my shite together more than most people. I can't imagine being my age, married, and thinking about kids.
I keep hearing the divorce rates are declining, but with social media and dating apps/sites, I have to believe the # will increase at some point. What happens when that former whore gets bored with "the one."

Because it shouldn't cost your life savings to communicate the truth and apply it toward a written law. The fact that you have to pay someone to twist, bend and manipulate and resort to destroying characters, not to mention all the other charades that take place in the legal system is a testament to the racket that is pervasive in the whole legal system from the police, to the lawyers and the judges.
