Any Married, Separated, Engaged or Single Males Here? An Important Tip...
Posted by Sao on 9/24/15 at 1:11 pm203
Please watch Divorce Corp. on Netflix or Youtube as soon as possible.
LINK
What's the point other than being informed, prepared and to scare you shitless? Just that. While the documentary cannot cast a 100% indictment on all attorneys, all judges or all municipalities, it does provide an absolute truth to the possibility one can face when traveling through the dark forest of Family Court. I've been there and it's a scary fricked up place.
I welcome any horror stories from you guys (and gals) on this topic as they too can serve the greater and growing good re: divorce and family law.
Cliffs? Here is a synopsis from the website above.

Cliffs? Here is a synopsis from the website above.
quote:
More money flows through the family courts, and into the hands of courthouse insiders, than in all other court systems in America combined – over $50 billion a year and growing. Through extensive research and interviews with the nation’s top divorce lawyers, mediators, judges, politicians, litigants and journalists, DIVORCE CORP. uncovers how children are torn from their homes, unlicensed custody evaluators extort money, and abusive judges play god with people’s lives while enriching their friends. This explosive documentary reveals the family courts as unregulated, extra-constitutional fiefdoms. Rather than assist victims of domestic crimes, these courts often precipitate them. And rather than help parents and children move on, as they are mandated to do, these courts - and their associates - drag out cases for years, sometimes decades, ultimately resulting in a rash of social ills, including home foreclosure, bankruptcy, suicide and violence. Solutions to the crisis are sought out in countries where divorce is handled in a more holistic manner.

Do you want to know why divorces cost so much? They're worth every penny.
Seriously, when I was in that business, I never once wrestled a client to the ground and forced them to sign a petition for divorce. They were ready, willing - EAGER to do it even. Their only problem was the cost.
No one has a problem paying a professional to do their taxes, remove their spleen or reconnect a water line. But, when it is a lawyer signing the bill, everybody gets up in arms.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the movie.
It's more about blatant corruption and no desire to stop it.
edit: For example a Gay porn star is one of two custody evaluators allowed by a particular judge in LA. His fee is $7500 for the hour or so evaluation. Later he calls the evaluateds attorney and says 25k to 35k will get them custody.
The evaluator is not licensed or anything. Just some dude who took a class and some penis on film is in charge of this childs custodial choice.

If so, the leak is expected to stop.

A friend recommended that to me last week. I need to watch. I have no kids, easily split assets, & a fairly amicable relationship with my ex. I would like to try to divorce without an attorney. I went to the courthouse in my parish to get the paperwork, and they told me they don't supply divorce paperwork. They looked at me like I'd grown 3 heads when I asked. She suggested I get the forms from EBR & just white out the name of the court.
Navigating the system is very confusing when you've never done it before. EBR posted a plain language guide last month to explain the process. Step 4 is literally "keep calling to check on the status of your petition." Sigh.
I never want to legally remarry. Next dude & I can just wear rings and pretend.

I know a man who got divorced from his daughter's mother.
Shortly after seperating the mother starts living with another man. The daughter is ~4 years old at this point.
A couple of weeks goes by and the daughter tells her dad, during one of the few and far-between times he gets to see her, that the man living with her and her mother touches her and makes her uncomfortable.
It took over 2.5 years from that point for him to get full custody, all the while the pedo is still living in the same house.
A large portion of his paycheck still goes to the mother of his child, despite her no longer having a child to take care of and the fact that she is basically in a domestic partnership with another man.
It has crushed his soul.

I watched this yesterday and it was quite eye opening. I've had several friends go through a divorce and none were hit like this, but I think they all went through mediation and had most of their stuff hammered out before-hand.

This should enrage everyone. Watching that documentary made me sick. Even when people tried to follow the proper steps and ask for help, they were hammered. It was disgusting.

Define hammered? could it be the reason its supposed to be difficult and expensive is to discourage the idea and make it less easy. IOW, could it be the idea is to encourage the couple to try and work things out?
It was disgusting.
And the documentary was directed well enough that it portrayed both men and women being ripped apart emotionally, financially and I'm certain spiritually. What faith can they have?
The two female subject's stories were just awful. Being a dad with EOW visitation is certainly tough for me. But to be literally banned from ever setting eyes on your children or feeling a hug like those mother's and father's, over bullshite? Disgusting.
You could make better life decisions. You could try picking the right woman. You could try not having kids with a gold digging whore.
You didn't say what's wrong with this? You just upset about the cost? Or he should be governmentallyforced to charge less or are you a homophobe?
