My brother went through a similar situation. His wife of over 8yrs suddenly "wasn't happy" and wanted a divorce. 2 weeks after the D the ex moves some dude into the house.

Couple months go by and after a weekend with his 7 year old daughter my brother is about to take her home to the ex and his daughter said "can I just stay with you, I don't want to go home". My brother asks her why and she told him the guy was touching her. My brother, trying to remain calm, asked her if she's told her mother about this. She said she had. He said what did she say and the daughter replied "not to tell you"!

Well the "go switch" was flipped and my brother, who is 6'-8" and about 260lbs, went over there and beat the living shite out of him. Cops are called and as they're hauling my brother away he tells the guy if he's still there when he gets out he's dead. Never saw the guy again and my brother had to attend 2yrs of Anger Management classes.

I sincerely hope a few young as well as grown men actually read the thread and watch the documentary. As in the OP, is this 100% common? No. Is it possible? Absolutely.

Life is hard enough as it is without pure heartache over a child of all things. I'm not advocating divorce is an answer to a domestic issue either... I only hope that if life can't be fixed with faith and hard work between two parents that this can be a reminder to please please do what "you" can do alleviate true torment for all parties involved.

The documentary is tremendous. Tremendously sick.

I agree. I have to say, we both promised we would do it that way, and she kept her promise, until this day. There were times it was hard, but then it became easy. But still, looking back, it was the hardest thing I ever went through, and it was done without lawyers or courts. I can't imagine doing it the other way.

We remain very good friends to this day. And my children love her more than anything, which says a lot. She was always a good mom.

Ah yes. You would be surprised at how much this is used as an excuse by women (who initiate the vast majority of divorces by the way). There is a vast divorce porn industry out there (e.g., Eat, Prey, Love) that encourages women to divorce.

I would classify that as justifiable assault, that should've been justifiable homicide.

That documentary was one of the scariest movies I have ever watched. I would like to see the rebuttal since it was one-sided but still pretty scary.

Is there an acceptable reason to divorce, in your opinion?

Gov. Ronald Reagan of California was the first one to legislate no-fault just as fact if anyone cares to know.

Prior to, infidelity and abuse were the only "just cause". Reagan, like the WOD, knew better!!

Don't need to see it, I've had two close friends get continually screwed by family court. One is going through it now, and the wife is deliberately vindictive. Actually, both wives are, and manipulate the system. One in St. Tammany and one in DuPage County, Illinois.

Both men are almost shells of their former selves.

Is it better to just not get married? My SO and I have 2 girls and live together like any married couple. We talk about marriage on occasion but it seems like its just better to stay legally single.

I am currently going through separation. Things are decent and civil so far. I have been been being helpful and respectful and hopefully we will make it through this without a judge getting involved.

So.. I just went and watched this ..since work is boring today...

I'm truly at a loss.. Those judges and lawyers can all go eat a fricking bullet..

I've been divorced and it's been a struggle b/c my X is a worthless piece of shite and at times i've felt a bit unfairly treated ..... But Damn... It's been a whole lot worse for a lot more people.

I do agree that Judges are given more power than they deserve and reform needs to happen and happen quickly.. Sadly though before that shite ever happens both of my children will be over 18 and worrying about that shite will be over with for me.... Mainly b/c its consumed so much of my life..

i'm pretty certain that if any District Court Judge in the State of La could avoid hearing any divorce cases, they would gladly give up that part of their docket. And while there are a few lawyers that enjoy divorce work, most hate it. The people who drag everything out and make it expensive are the litigants.

can one get divorced in Louisiana and make their own decisions about the kids, custody and splitting of assets? Just use something like LegalZoom and be done with it on the cheap. I always wondered if this was possible.
