Yep. The entire system is rigged. Attorneys become politicians and seem to make laws that reward attorneys. The DUI industry seems like a cash cow too.

Here's the deal and please watch the doc when you can...

Key into the fact that no one, regardless of income, is guaranteed proper counsel. Rich and the other spouse retains a lawyer more in tune with, supported in campaign or was a colleague with the judge? fricked.

Poor and can't afford a lawyer? Think you can get a court appointed lawyer as if you shot someone in the face? Not a chance.

You agree to joint custody but with only EOWeekend plus weekday weekly dinner... Less time for you? The more support you pay. Best interest of the child, right??

You're a daddy of 14 years, church... soccer coach... frick like a champ... wear clean clothes and all your friends and family think your BBQ is awesome. Courts never ever EVER question you're Dad Of The Year. Who on Earth has ever made a visit to evaluate it? shite hits the fan and you don't make anniversary 15? You're a mean talking, arrogant, iron fist son of a bitch so sayeth counsel. Judge only has two ears and one side to take. fricked.

Can't pay your legal fees? House lien.

Can't accept what the decision is? Jump over the bench and try to grab the judge by the throat (not kidding...). Why not.

I know a bunch of people who have been through it. The guys all got butt plowed and lost everything to their cheating wives.

I'm 44. I'm not what you would call a big ol' puss but there were times during this show Vidalia's were being sliced. I mean, it's fricked up when a capable and willing man can't even hug his child because of this system who pride's itself on justice and written law. It's fricking heartbreaking.

Don't tell those I said this in the addict who died in jail thread... Reputation and such.

The only thing I hate about these kinds of documentaries is that audiences will nod their heads in disgusted, furious agreement, and then business will simply go on as usual and while all is forgotten.

Could not agree more. And in this case, the Law is written by those who practice it. I mean, can you imagine Draconian Sanctions influencing law? He can't even write gooder when he posts.

I'd like to see a woman on the OT come in and provide her opinion.

Meh, Paige is poor and has a vagina you could hide case law in. She's not going to touch this one.

The main problem a lot of men make during divorce is that they still see their future ex wives as the women that they married. The reality is that the women who initiated the divorce are not even remotely close to that person and in fact usually take on an entirely different personality.

Basically, you're dealing with a stranger that you cannot trust and does not have your best interest at heart and likely is looking to frick you over hardcore. There is only one response worthy of this situation, Going Scorched Earth. You make it very very clear that she can either accept the amicable divorce or she can end up with 100% of nothing. If she's going to play it like this, you cannot play the part of the nice guy at all. You have to be willing to fight even dirtier. Tell your lawyer you are pushing for her to get absolutely nothing from you.

By being willing to give up shite, you open yourself up to manipulation because you instantly give up any bargaining chip you may have otherwise had. You basically have to be willing to tie it up in the courts for so long that you both end up penniless.

I understand kids complicate the issue, but if you are barred from ever seeing them and are only ever used as a walking wallet for child support then what's the point? You have to put yourself first in a divorce and then your kids because if you don't take care of yourself, then you will forever play catch up in a game that is rigged from the start.

Still would be interesting to see if "the switch" is frowned upon by other women.

Yep, along with the healthcare system. Of course it cannot be avoided in many cases, but staying clear of these two things as much as possible = a pretty successful stay here.

Only checkpoints. The state has an interest in protecting its citizens and you are driving on the state's roads...however...these checkpoints seem so intrusive to me.

Healthcare is a bigger rip off than the court system imo.

Anthony Cumia, formerly of the Opie and Anthony Radio Show, has an interesting divorce story. When he was getting divorced they had: No house (they were renting), didn't have kids, about 30K saved, and a leased car. Anthony thought the divorce would be simple because of the lack of assets and kids. Nope. He had a big contract coming up. So her lawyer (which Anthony paid for) delayed the divorce proceeding till he got the new contract. Her lawyer tried to argue that she made Anthony funny therefore she is owed a piece of his future income. A reporter from New York Daily News was in the courtroom for their proceedings (Anthony thinks her lawyer informed the reports to come). Her lawyer started to tiptoe about some of the couples sexual exploits in court (swinging, threesomes). Anthony was concerned about the reports picking up on this so he quickly stopped the proceedings and took a shite deal. Was married for 10 years, had to pay her for MORE than 10 years. Had to pay her quarterly checks and provide insurance for YEARS.

Over hour 4 of divorce talk.

Yep. I know someone in grad school who is guaranteed a pretty nice job when they graduate. They've already been told that money can/will be sought after even though there's nothing right now.

I just watched this documentary. Holy shite.

Just watched the documentary.

It was good, but there was one major flaw:

For the people that talked about how they were screwed in court and can't see their kids, we NEVER heard the other side of the story from the other person. Not once.

I know family court is bullshite, and I think the documentary was honest with how people are getting screwed over and bribes are being made, but at the same time I know there are a lot of people out there who take no accountability for their divorces and blame, blame, blame. Knowing that, I want to hear both sides of the story before I make judgments.
