We could have had 4 starters but Payton had to get smart and trade away picks when we have no depth.

This is the problem. Few of us know shite. But we read and/or listen to Detillier, Kiper, McShay, Mayock, etc. and we act like we are members of the scouting department. Or they don't take an LSU player or a player with a famous name like Scooby Wright III and the sky is falling.

I mean, Scooby Wright. The Saints are stupid for not taking him, I guess. But everybody passed on him for six rounds and then the team that is generally recognized as the stupidest team in the NFL is the one who took him in the 7th. I don't think we'll lose sleep over not picking him.

The Saints did some smart things and they did some questionable things. And those of you who complain about the RB in the 7th, I can promise you that the reason they took him was probably because somebody probably had a deal in place with him as an UDFA and they already had handshake UDFA deals in place with Landon Turner and some other guys.

Shaq Lawson has bust written all over him. He looks like the guy to finally get drafted. Get paid and become lazy.

I agree, we should've got Goff, Elliot, Buckner, Rankins, Ramsey, Aguayo, and then stashed Myles Jack and J. Smith. Our front office sucks.

So our first round pick in your draft will miss time because of a shoulder injury....great job genius
He is not expected to miss any time. Shefter said speculation is that he could have surgery after the season, so no time missed (if needed at all). He was cleared 100% on the shoulder.

Hindsight is always 20/20.
We did need a receiver – you can't question that. However, I do agree that could've made a better trade or two compared to what they did. I don't know why they got a running back or the guy from Canada as well.

Why do people do this?

Were you mad when we didn't draft Jerry Rice, Walter Payton, Lawrence Taylor, or Dwight Freeney?

But then again your father was probably just liking girls (lucky for you) when they were playing.

But if his football acumen is anything like yours, he probably was pissed we didn't draft Bosworth.

If you need attention because nobody would go to the prom with you, go act depressed outside of a gas station. Somebody will buy you some beer.

Trevor Pryce >>>>
Jarvis Jenkins is having a career...
Gaines Adams was doing damn good... till...

not that any of those guys have anything to do with the ones that are coming out now, or our team needing them or not

How many people complaining about the draft actually know what they are talking about? If I were a betting man, I'd say 0% and I'm being generous.

Porkchop, half the youngsters don't know half the players you mentioned.

All in all, a pretty good draft, imo, despite what the "experts" are printing.. Two solid starters, a starting Nickel/dime DB to replace Bush, a project player with great upside that will play in a number of sets & a needed RB for depth replacing Robinson/Cadet (can't depend on an aging Hightower).

With only 5 picks, a pretty good 3 days.

Sheldon Ranking was a great pick to start off the draft.

They should have picked up Jarran Reed in the second round.

Vonn Bell will be good for the Saints but they didn't have to trade up to get him IMO. He would have been available at the #3 spot for them. If not...then they could have taken the best player on their board.

And trading up for the Nigerian...worst move of the day.

They think the RB will be good for the ST squad and hopefully be able to contribute to the RB's.

The Nigerian they hope will be a impact player on the D-line and worth the two low picks they gave for him.

Feel better now?

I don't think teams often pick seventh rounders at positions of need.

They go BPA.

Point is we shouldn't have traded picks to move up

I love that some people are acting like we traded away half of our draft picks.

We had 6 picks going into the draft. R1P12, R2P47, R3P78, R4P112, R5P152, and R7P237. And according to draft pick value chart, our picks had a total value of 1931.7.

After trades, we still had 5 picks in the draft. R1P12, R2P47, R2P61, R4P120, R7P237. According to the draft pick value chart, our picks had a total value of 1977.1.

OP thinks we shouldn't have traded up and kept our picks to add depth. Yet we only had 1 less pick than we did going into the draft. I'm sure that 1 pick would have given us soooo much more depth

And after the trades, our draft picks had a higher total value than it did before the trades. Sure we lost a 5th RD pick for next years draft, but who cares? It's not like we gave up a top 3 round pick. It's a 5RD pick. Not a big deal IMO.

But every 5th round pick could be Carl Nicks because it was that one time long long ago.

And clearly you only draft for need in the 7th because they could be Colston.

The Saints have too many holes to have the luxury of trading up. New England finds teams to trade up why can't the Saints? When you have 22 starters and 11 holes, you're not gonna fix them in two drafts if you keep trading up; however, you could get close if you trade down.
