Blackened redfish poboy from a now defunct restaurant. I mourn the loss of that place.

Streetcar Sandwiches on Carrollton. I read the whole list planning to post the same thing.

That place was golden. That poboy resulted in an addiction for me. I believe I shed tears when it closed. The smoked wings were also excellent, but that sandwich. There was a peacemaker there, also, that was good, but nothing beat the blackened redfish.

I think the owners divorced and moved out of state. The wife posted on one of the Tom Fitz forums some years later about it. I was hoping she would come back.

Streetcar Sandwiches. I believe it was near Jeanette St.

Painted red on the outside, I think. It was small. No tables, but there were bar stools that lined up at the front window where you could sit and eat. There may have been a long thin bar between those and the kitchen with stools also.

Milk Bar in NOLA

Occidental Oriental. Roasted chicken, mozz, red pepper, cucumber, bean sprouts, and a peanut satay... all on their amazing fresh crusty bread.

BEST SANDWICH

I just ate at old tyme grocery in Lafayette because of a couple of mentions in this thread and I must say that I am underwhelmed. The shrimp poboy was packed with shrimp but had very little flavor. My wife got the meatball poboy and it was good but not great. Even the fries had no seasoning. Just naked potato wedges. Overall, subpar.

Anyone remember Rossetti's on the Point? The Vancleave Special and a bottle of Barq's sure could cure an evening of "overserving" oneself the next day. The crabmeat and cheese Sammy was tremendously tasty......especially with a bit of hot sauce.

Old Tyme Grocery... I am underwhelmed.

Have to agree. It's a fun place to go if you're in college at UL and you make memories with your friends there and for that reason, it's special. Old Tyme though, really isn't comparable to a Chris's or Julien's PoBoy's in Lafayette.

Shrimp Poboy from Gator Stop in Boutte. It was a ghetto little gas station. The owner eventually tried to move to a better location but the sandwich was never the same. Long since shut down. I always though a shrimp poboy from almost any place was as good as most others. I was so wrong.

Pop's Poboy is the best in Lafayette in my opinion. The Hot Hot is ridiculous.

Grouper sandwich

#1) Grilled grouper. So simple and so delicious. Easy to find at most seafood places around the panhandle of FL.

#2) Close runner-up: grilled yellow-fin at Southside Cafe, Slidell, LA.

#3) Shrimp po-boy from Captain Humble's pre-Katrina

Something else they did that I wish everyone would copy, they didn't have french fries, the served a scoop of a sort of jambalaya. It was white rice with lots of veggies and seasoning, delicious, it paired great with the sandwiches.
