There was a little place in Loreauville, The Patio, that in the late 90s made a great oyster po-boy. When I moved back to Louisiana in 2004, I was sad to discover they had closed.

When Local Foods first opened in Houston their main event was a roast beef sandwich with curried cauliflower, kale, cheddar and a ton of horseradish.

Was incredible...the sandwich rotates on and off the menu and is still pretty good (seems like everything has gotten smaller at Local), but that had to have been one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten.

Les Baget's pork belly banh mi with shrimp chips and a fried egg is the best sandwich in my life currently. But that's subject to change.

Several come to my mind as placeholders for really good sandwiches:

Old school Ray's Pege roast beef poboy with gravy
Roast beef poboy from Bear's Covington
BBQ Beef poboy at Glynn's Bogalusa
Chopped beef from Danken Trail is hard to beat also.
Slayden's BBQ sliced pork sandwich

Tough question.

The Old Tyme Deli on Northside and I-55 in Jackson had a nice Ruben that kept me from ever ordering anything else there.

The Frostop drive inn Butterburger had butter ground into the hamburger meat and was tasty.

There was a burger place in Columbus back in the 60s adjacent to MSCW that had a slaw burger that was unique. Also a Colombus burger joint called the Blue Goose with great burgers.

Len Lou's Beer Joint at the Crossroads outside of Starkville had a sliced Pork BBQ that seemed to always come with a pitcher of Schlitz beer.

The enlisted men's club at Ft Lewis, WA had a big cheese burger and 20 cent beers I still remember.

Ben Katz's Pool Hall in Starkville had frozen BBQ sandwiches that you heated in an infared oven. At 3:00 am, between 9 ball games. They were tasty.

I can't remember the bar just outside of the post gate on Bragg Blvd. at Ft. Bragg, NC but I do remember their burgers.

Every place I have mentioned is long gone and stored away in my memory.

Best current sandwich probably is the BLT I had here at home last summer when the tomatoes were coming in.

The wife makes killer Pimento Cheese and Chicken Salad to carry me through days of absence of fresh from the garden tomatoes.
