re: Basketball: NCAA Tournament prospects
Posted by Swsb44 on 1/17/16 at 6:53 pm to The Pirate King
It will be the NIT this and maybe the best we can hope for the next several years. We will be inconsistent for the rest of the season. We are certainly not on an upward trajectory. Vanderbilt and certainly Kentucky are nowhere the teams we thought they would be, but good wins. Got some national attention and lost to Florida. I’m afraid that our Arkansas win may be the end of a “fast” start in the conference.
My major concern is something that really disappoints me because I wanted Johnny Jones to be LSU's greatest coach ever. He’s total LSU and deserves to lead us to a NC. The problem: he played for Dale Brown, he coached for Dale Brown, had a brief and successful stay at the University of North Texas of the Sunbelt Conference.
Brown, as Jones, was/is a great recruiter and motivator. Brown won with great assistant coaches, he didn’t know the X & Os of basketball. Jones is a Brown disciple, both great guys, but not great basketball coaches. Get use to the NIT as long as Johnny is in charge. I hope so much that I’m wrong and will eat a slop jar full of crow’s waste if I am. But I’m not. Dang.

re: Peter King claims Sean Payton is on the hotseat

Exactly! Peter King said nothing about a "hot seat". Payton is just waiting a "respectable" number of seasons after the suspension (and Benson's loyalty) to leave New Orleans. Unless the Saints go to the Superbowl and they probably won't even make the playoffs - Payton will leave on his own and will NOT be fired. He's probably sick that Dallas might do okay this year because that's the job he planned to move into next year. We had a few "elite" years, but with "bountygate" - Goodell's perfect distractions of the team and its image - and the clear drop in the level of high quality players, thus speeding the aging of Brees - it's over and we're back to an 8-8 team. :wah:

The Saints are in at 8-8. We had a couple of embarrassing losses, but so very, very close losses to good teams. Saints aren’t near as good as we thought they would be this year, but they’re not near as bad as people seem to make them out to be. We get two easy victories in the next two weeks; finish 8-8 overall and in the playoffs. If the ball bounces our way in a couple of playoff games, we’ll be considered as good as any team in the league.

What we are witnessing now is the team going through the toughest part of the schedule. We have played the 6th toughest schedule so far LINK Look at the games in January-March, we will make a run and be in the thick of the playoff race. If no significant injuries occur this team will end up with a win total in the mid to upper 40s.
Thanks, I think this is a big factor. We're not great, but we're not that bad and when you see us at the bottom of the Division it makes me sick. But, the Divsion and Conference - Wow, how can an even better than average (not saying we are) have much hope. However, a string of wins sure would feel good.

I moved from New Orleans to Nashville about a two years ago. I thought I was moving to "Hee Haw straw hatsville". However, I love it! Come to the game and plan an extended stay. This place has a GREAT music scene (and I don't like country music at all), every type of venue. Lots of fantastic bars and restaurants, beautiful downtown. :dude: And a great football game :geauxtigers:

quote:Wow, you use selective memory, forgetfulness and the fact that no human has 20/20 hindsight -- to construct a heck of an argument. First, the original deal involving CP3 was done by the commissioner not our guys. Neol has never played a game. At the time we were concerned, but the potential greatness of Gordon was held by many (especially Pheniox). Without stating the endless evidence, the injury level the Pelicans have sustained is a "Super Anomoly". Assuming we are healthier next session and with a true big man on the team, I wonder if CP3 wish he had the opportunity, would come back and play with AD and the crew. The Clippers sure are in neutral.
Demps and Williams have single handidly put this organization in neutral
re: What are the odds of Anthony Davis being a career Pelican?
Posted by Swsb44 on 6/16/14 at 12:50 pm to tigerfan84
In this thread there have been about 2 or 3 relevant responses. This issue of AD staying with the Pelicans through his most productive years depends mainly on whether the team becomes a league power and soon. I’ve dismissed (to a point) the last two seasons because of the team’s youth and primarily because of injuries. If we remain healthy for the majority of next season, acquire a player or two that upgrade the team a little and remain bottom feeders – AD is gone as soon as he can
I still think if this team is consistently healthy, they will become a league power and because they are so young that could last a long, long time. AD staying in New Orleans depends on the team winning. Period.

Did you see our last game against Seattle? I'm thrilled we beat Philly and this Seattle game might be a little closer than the last one but we don't have a chance. But what the shite - I went to Philly and I'll be in Seattle. :nana:
Love the uniforms - simple, but MOST importantly New Orleans on both the home and away - same as the Hornets.
JJ2, you make an excellent point. Thank you. I retract my previous statement and apologize to readers posting such a shallow, illogical comment.

AGREE! I bought my Pelican shirt, hat and coffee mug months ago when they first came out. After my initial shock with the name, I've been loving the "Pelicans" mainly because I thought the org. really did their homework and had every detail researched, build and tuned to perfections.
Now it sounds like they settled for a re-brand that was far from their first choice (for whatever reason).

Purple&Gold and Wayne, I think you're trying to hurt my feelings and discredit my opinion. Sometimes I just can't understand these issues as profoundly and with such passion, knowledge and sanctified insight as you two creative and original, yet whimsical intellectuals. My apology for interrupting the flow of this thread with my spurious and illegitimate comments. Have a nice day. :wah:

Assuming the backup is not as good as the starter, I don't want them playing any "meaningful" snaps unless forced by injury
Of course, but we can't assume the backup is not as good starter in all situations and against every team. (I guess?) Mett is no superstar and won't be next year, but he will be the starter. Therefore, if we do have a good number 2 (and we do) make sure he get some meaningful playing time in every game. Mett remains the starter, the leader, but since he's only average at best adjust #2 playing time accordingly. Mett's not worried about being pulled and we convert a few more critical first downs so that we're talking NC game at the end of the season and not the Peach & Chicken bowl.
re: I've made fun of Rob Ryan the last 2 years...
Posted by Swsb44 on 2/15/13 at 10:04 am to LooseCannon22282
A few reasons for hope - Ryan has been in bad situations the past few years (Cleveland & injury problems at Dallas).
I assume that Payton wants the Saints to win next year more than anyone in the universe and he picked Ryan.
We had the worse defense in the history of the NFL last year, a suspended head coach, GM, interim head coach #1 for 6 games, two interim head coaches during the year a new defensive coordinator who was unable to communicate with Payton all season and we still finished 7-9.
If Ryan can get the defense at least as good as 26 or 27th in the league, I'm buying a heavy coat and snow tires for that game in New Jersey in Feb.
And finally, LC22282 message sums up the situation and I think we'll have a least a little luck getting a couple of key players.

re: So, who really feels LSU has a chance at a NC the next several years
Posted by Swsb44 on 1/20/13 at 11:17 am to boxcar willie
I think the best we will do next year is 8-3. Mett will not be better next year; he just had one good game in the second half of the season and that has been translated into “second half improvement”. For three years we said that JJ would improve and it never happened. What we saw with Mett last year is what we’ll see this year. If Les had the guts to change QBs (and he doesn’t) and hire a good offensive to call plays (and he won’t) – the offence would improve and move away from the current “hit or miss” nightmare.
I think a major problem that people won’t admit is the 14 underclassmen leaving for the NFL. This will hurt us bad! The other question is: Why? If the players saw a possible NC next year why the flee to the NFL?
LSU will drop to a second tier SEC team for the next several years and we’ll dream for another 10 win season.

Since we're restricted to this list - Krewe - of course.
HOWEVER, Benson should buy the entire AFL to acquire the Voodoo brand. This is the only name I would rate about the brand (Jazz) that got away.

However, even considering all the rules and regulations that determine specific bowl invitations, this is a slap in the face to LSU. I wish the team would refuse the invitation - they got screw, the click-fil-a is not a reward for this team, it's an insult. This has nothing to do with "fans not supporting the team".
It sickens me to see so called LSU fans saying they won't support the team in the Chick Fil A Bowl.
