I've recently pulled my son from the school system and am now in charge of his schooling. Before anyone gets all high and mighty, this was done out of necessity as my son can no longer go to school. For those that home school, what types of things do you do? Do you follow a set curriculum? Has anyone done K12? Thoughts? Right now we are doing workbooks and things I've found online, but it's not structured enough for my liking. There is a local home school group but it's full of a bunch of anti-establishment, crunchy granola types that can't relate and have vastly different views than what we are trying to achieve, and I can't get any straight answers. Any advice appreciated.

i think there is a national home schooling program where they send you lesson plans and tests and the like.

just make sure that you get your kid out in public as much as possible or he/she will not develop the social skills needed to communicate in society.

I can't give you any real advice but check out Pioneer Woman's blog. She home schools and is definitely not a granola type. She's got a whole section dedicated to it.

Why cant he go to school?

How will he function in the real world if he cant even go to school?

IMO you are doing your kid a disservice.

He's sick. And yes, that's homebound. We did that. It doesn't work out. He learned nothing, and they just passed him along.

Whose tits and arse is he going to grab growing up? How is he going to have friendships and learn to exist in the outside world?

This is cruel and unusual punishment for him, IMO. Find a different school system or private school. Home schooled kids usually grow up and lose their shite when he real world hits them, based on the ones I knew.

My wife wanted to do this before I raised my hand to her...mentally and logically. There are multiple sites out there that have lesson plans and curriculums for you and your son. I'll see if I can find them

I'm not 100% for homeschooling, but I would try sending the child to one of those really small schools/academies first.

definitely! A guy I work with is the strangest person I've ever met. He's always staring and is just weird. Home schooled he is.

I know exactly what you're thinking and I would just say don't even try it. With the current draconian child labor laws, you won't be open a week before they shut you down.

I did k12 for my daughter last year as an experiment. It's pretty good. She's back in a regular school this year and it out her way ahead of her classmates.

It's 100% free and was chill getting all those boxes with microscopes and art supplies.

It was 99% online and it doesn't get any easier. Halfway through the year she was mostly doing it on her own.

Ask me any question.

The things kids learn at school that isn't in a book is as if not more important than what is in a book.

That's where they lose.

I'm just looking for ideas on curriculums. Not what a horrible parent I am for pulling him. This was not by choice. If my son grows up, he won't live independently or hold a job unless there is some major scientific breakthrough in the next few years. Our circumstances are not the norm so I really am looking for responses other than the norm of how much he will be ruined by this.

Wink, thanks. I'll check it out.
