re: Miles to Return for Seventh Season at LSU
Posted by Tigerbrees76 on 1/11/11 at 2:19 pm to Ham Brown
I wasn't ever a real big Miles fan - until today. I wasn't even going to be sad if he left this time - just concerned about what happened to our program - until today.
Les Miles is a class act and he has finally given coaches a good name. He turned down more money and his former school to stay here. Say what you want - LSU is his home now. It should make every fan proud to know that we have a coach who finally gets it - even though we've probably all wondered if he really did based on some of his decisions lol.
I'm thrilled that he's staying - I'm exited that he's our coach and that he is truly an LSU man.
I look forward to next season and it's about time I jump on the bandwagon too - and say, "Fear the Hat!"

Jack Del Rio - would be a terrible choice I think.
re: PAC-10 superiority over the SEC? LOLZ they think they own us!

Lets see what he says if Miles leaves and LSU offers up to Kelly and Kelly takes it. Let's see what he has to say about PAC-10 superiority then. Not that I'm a fan of a coaching change, but that would be very ironic and hilarious.

I just read where Petersen wouldn't even talk to Stanford about their vacancy. Not that I'm comparing Stanford to LSU at all - just wonder if that's a sign that he's waiting to see what happens with UM and Miles or does that mean he's content and staying put in Boise

I agree Chris Petersen would be by first pick, because of that very reason. Patterson would be my second and amazingly enough, I think Leach would be my third.

I like that list of names - Mike Leach is an interesting name that I haven't thought of. We would have offense that's for sure. I kind of like that idea the more I think of it.
Saban would be my top pick too - but I think that's a zero chance. Gruden seems to be waiting on an NFL gig, I like Patterson and Petersen; Fisher just got a raise from Florida State and is doing well there so I don't think he'd leave - Sarkisian hasn't shown me much to like him but that's just my opinion, Pelini can stay in Nebraska, I haven't liked much of what I've seen of him this season, Dan Mullen didn't even sniff at UF so I think he is content at Miss State - and Dooley - hasn't proven enough yet, but again that's my opinion. I really like that Mike Leach idea though - that's a name I haven't seen thrown around a lot.

I think most Tiger fans would take Saban back in a heartbeat. But anyways,
What is with all the interest in Jack Del Rio?? He is a marginal NFL coach at best but I keep seeing his name pop up in threads as someone that people feel the fan base would like. So I don't say this disrespectfully, but will someone fill me in on what the hell he has done to warrant one of the top jobs in all of college football??
Same for Jon Gruden - what has he done at the college level that I'm missing. I just feel that we need a college coach - not an NFL retread. Gruden did well in the NFL - I'd feel better with him - but Del Rio?? What's the attraction?

re: Jordan Jefferson on Heisman watch for next season?

I've heard of optimism but this is just ridiculous. Jordan Jefferson will be lucky to start next season - he has 2 good games and now all the sudden lets put him up for the Heisman?? It's always good to be optimistic - but how about being realistic also?
re: Les leaving LSU would be really really bad for us.

I don't think there is anyone who can't say that they've been frustrated with Miles from time to time. The fact about Miles is, in my opinion anyway, he followed Saban. No one was going to do anything right after following Saban. Having said that, Miles worst seasons here would be what some programs (including Michigan) would dream for. That's why I feel like you should be real careful about what you ask for as far as those who want him gone.
Pelini I think would be a terrible, terrible hire. Petersen, Kelly, or Patterson would be good ones - but at this point, with signing day what, a month away, I'd say any coaching change could be catastrophic. For all of Miles' faults, he's done pretty well considering he could do nothing right based on who he followed.

The TCU coach would be a pretty interesting guy to get also but I dunno if he'd leave. He practically walks on water there as far as his fan base is concerned.

My biggest concern is also what happens to us in recruiting and who would we get. Joe Alleva or however you spell his name has not had to make a major coaching hire, so this is going to be his first one. I think Skip Bertman helped him with Trent Johnson, although I could be wrong. But anyway, it just concerns me a lot because Duke didn't have a good football team during Alleva's tenure there.
And all those who can't wait to see Miles leave - it's true - you could do a lot worse. I'd be interested to see for those who want Miles out so bad to see who you would suggest as a replacement. The only one that comes to mind for me that I'd be interested in is Chris Petersen out of Boise State. And he is unproven as well.

All this criticism for Miles and that he may be playing this to his advantage etc ... how many people wouldn't do the same thing in our own jobs? There aren't very many people who can honestly say they wouldn't do what they could to get paid to do the same thing they were doing the day before.
I'm not a big Miles fan and I agree with the point that he's limited our offense. And while I wouldn't be sad to see him go - there's no guarantee that we are going to get a big named person to take this job. It's awful late to be changing coaches with recruiting etc - so whatever happens I hope it happens soon.
