Sounds like a handful of administrators don’t want to grow the school nor let go of power.

Is that the gist of the story?

Bingo!

Was the new priest previously connected to the parish, maybe a former vicar?

Nope. He has no prior connections to the parish.

This is the tough part. People in Plaquemine love their school and want to be there but what do you do in this situation? You would think calling on the diocese to step in would be beneficial, but that has turned out not to be the case. Just a bad deal all around.

Some upper crust Plaque-maniacs (I also believe this is in itself an oxymoron) are raising hell because they’re not getting their way.

HA! That's really not the case in this situation. Do we have some entitled parents, sure we do, just like any other school. This is simply about people being tired of the BS.

The parents are defending a new principal that is an "outsider" that they don't even know personally. So yeah, it's certainly not about parents not getting their way.
I honestly didn’t think this was a big story at first, but the more I’ve learned, the more I realize it really is. What’s happening here is just plain wrong and there’s a lot of shady stuff and power games going on that people deserve to know about.

Here’s the quick rundown:

• The former principal resigned or retired at the end of last school year — rumors say it was pushed by the priest at the time.
• That same priest hired a new principal in May 2025.
• The priest unexpectedly passed away in June 2025.
• A new priest arrived in August 2025.
• The new principal was placed on administrative leave on October 7, 2025.

Everyone around here knows the former principal and current assistant principal are controlling and power-hungry. Even after “retiring,” the former principal still shows up on campus almost every day, giving orders to teachers and students like she never left. She even became pissed when the new principal changed the locks on the school buildings.

This whole mess was stirred up by the former principal and the assistant principal. As soon as the new priest got here, they went straight to him to trash the new principal and turn him against her, and it worked. He refused to meet with her for weeks, and when he finally did, he brought someone from the diocese just to tell her he didn’t agree with her decisions. Keep in mind, school had only been in session for about a month at that point.

After that meeting, the priest:
• Put the former principal on the school’s financial board.
• Told the new principal she couldn’t meet with anyone unless the assistant principal was in the room.
• Said every decision had to go through the assistant principal.

He even told the new principal several times that he never would’ve hired her because she didn’t go to Catholic school growing up. Also- he never ONCE met with her one-on-one. Every single time someone else was in the room- the assistant principal, the former principal, or someone from the diocese.

Since the story hit social media, the priest has made things even worse by commenting on posts blaming parents and alumni for the school’s problems. He’s been publicly arguing with people who’ve supported the school for years.

It’s sad because the new principal never got a fair chance. The school was actually doing great! Enrollment is up, alumni were back involved, and the overall energy was the best it’s been in a long time. Now all the progress is being destroyed because a few people couldn’t let go of control, and the diocese sent in a combative priest to further divide the community.

The diocese says they’ll announce a “permanent interim principal” after Thanksgiving, but everyone expects it’ll be the former principal. If that happens, it’s only going to get uglier. There’s a long list of questionable stuff that went on during her time, and a lot of people are ready to start digging into it if she’s brought back.

Then yesterday the school had mass and the Bishop had to come and ask everyone to forgive the Priest. How weak does this look that the Bishop has to come in to ask people to forgive the “leader” of the school? Not a good look for the Diocese!
