Grew up Catholic. Stopped going regularly in college. I'm a one timer a year now, Christmas Eve service. I honestly do it not to create a big family fight with my dad. But honestly, while I believe in God, the church is pretty much dead to me. To me it just comes off as meaningless and artificial. The same people you see in church are the same people who will cut you off and give you the finger rushing out of the parking lot.

And I'm telling you I've talked to 7 different hotels (I work for a technology company that develops systems for a lot of hospitality companies including hotels) that have flat out admitted they've never had availability like this a month out from Mardi Gras. Either they are typically sold out or they are much closer to being sold out. One hotel had all of their room categories still available.

I'm not trying to say it's every hotel by any means and it could just be isolated but what I am saying is, unlike what you're trying to say, it's not normal.

That's what I'm wondering. The only thing that will make this city clean itself up is if the tourists finally have enough and stop visiting. Could we be seeing the start of that? People finally getting fed up with going to a place for a vacation and having to worried about getting car jacked, robbed or killed?

We're within a month of Mardi Gras now and is Mardi Gras attendance poised to be disappointing? I ask this because of what's happening with some hotels.

In the last week I've had two local New Orleans hotel groups send me emails about booking your Mardi Gras reservation now. These are hotels that are located in the French Quarter and along major parade routes that are actually trying to entice people to book.

Sure the prices are insane (all over $325/night with 3 night minimums at least) but the fact they have any availability at all is telling. These are hotels that a few years ago, if you called within a few months of Mardi Gras asking about availability, they would utterly laugh at you. These are hotels that had lists they would call as they would have the same people book year after year almost a year in advance.

I'll go on record and say I'll believe the major krewes are rolling when I see it. With that said I don't think that's it. I also don't think it's Omicron. Yeah people who cancelled a month ago might have cancelled because of Omicron but not now.

So what do you think it is? Covid? Crime in the city? The economy and inflation? The mask requirement?
