This is where the professional groups come in. I guarantee a lot of these "protestors" are bought and paid for and were bussed in from out of state. They're probably going to hotels in the suburbs and sleeping during the day so they can be active through the night.

Bold prediction: the protests and general retardation and rioting will precipitate a massive 2nd wave directly caused by said retardation.

Then the media will say look we were right all along!! Opening is bad!!

Etc ad nauseam.

Yep and then they'll want to shut everything down again. Screw that.

Hungary and Poland is looking pretty good these days.

Born and raised in the U.S. and I still do love a lot of areas of this country. I am worried though about the U.S. becoming less stable over time and eventually getting to the point where there are so many competing factions that hate each other that nothing gets done. Some would argue we're already there and they're probably right.

My parents are in their mid 70's and I could honestly see myself leaving the country after they pass on. If I ever do leave Poland, Czech Republic and Austria in Europe are definitely at the top of my list.

I might even look at Japan or Singapore over in Asia as well.

Point being, once my parents are gone if things get really bad here in the U.S. I will seriously consider leaving.

I believe the long term solution is a peaceful break up of the U.S. Hawaii becomes Independent again. Alaska either becomes Independent or joins Canada. The lower 48 break up into 5 countries (Southeast, Northeast, Midwest, Mountain West and West Coast). Puerto Rico and any U.S. territories becomes their own countries again.

Coronavirus Now An Afterthought

In just a few days. Who would've thought?

Anyone else noticed this? No social distancing during these riots and very few masks. Heck even public officials have somewhat stopped wearing masks while addressing these riots and a lot of the media reporters are not wearing masks while covering the riots. Isn't it ironic?

Heck the local and state government officials aren't even trying to warn people that they could be infected by going to these riots.

Shows me that this virus has probably been gone for at least a good month now but they didn't want to let it go. What does it show you?
Yeah I'm going to be a no on Martial Law. We just essentially got out of Martial Law. :wah:

I’ve said for years on here that desegregation has been one of the biggest failed, and costliest social experiments ever.

Exactly and it should be blacks who fight it. Desegregation has destroyed the black family unit and the black culture.

Diversity in general destroys cultures. Look at suburbs compared to cities? Suburbs are mostly chain restaurants, chain stores and are essentially soulless. Do we want that to happen to the cultures of different ethnicities?

Plenty of restaurants open now. By August it will be better. There will still be a lot to do. Even now you can stroll through the Quarter, get drinks and food along the way, and hit up a museum or shop. You can do the same along Magazine St.

Good to hear. Part of me would be up for going over to NOLA in June since I'm on furlough and have the time off. The problem is both hotels that I would normally stay at (Place d'Armes on St. Ann or French Market Inn on Decatur) are both closed until August 1st.

I'm guessing most of the chain hotels are open but to me there's something wrong about going to NOLA and staying at a chain hotel. I've only stayed at a chain hotel in the city twice, for the NCAA Final Four in 2012 and for Mardi Gras back in 2015.

Any non-chain hotels that are open that you would recommend?

A lot of restaurants are open at 25% capacity, in all I doubt "clubs" etc will be open at full capacity in August unless this virus bottoms out. Bars believe they will be open in Phase 2 which should happen soon, so that is a good thing. You will probably see more opening then as well such as the Aquarium/Zoo, museums, etc...

Mask and social distancing may still be required in August as well. But by coming in August if shite is still going on at least you won't have to deal with the trash and traffic.

Thank you for the good information. I accept I'll probably still have to wear a mask inside places though at least I won't have to wear a mask inside the room, outside at the pool and just outside in general. Figure it might actually be nice because NOLA will be slower than normal and you won't have the normal amount of drunks. Obviously being in August I might go to some of the museums as well. Haven't been to the World War II Museum since 2012 so seriously considering that.

Mostly just want the restaurants and bars to be open and some live music playing. Not into the Bourbon Street/club/strip club scene so that won't matter to me.

Haha maybe the thugs won't be as bad right now. I haven't heard about as many murders. The heat will slow them down and there sitting nice and pretty in their shack getting their unemployment checks.

Understandable. I might just end up taking the risk while the Southwest prices are still good. Worse case if a lot of things are still closed it'll be a cheap trip, lol.

I'll just buy some drinks to go where I can, get takeout, get some beignets to go and hang out at the hotel pool.
Sobering look at the future of air travel. Typically New Orleans to Orlando or Tampa would be between $49 to $89 one way.

Just looked, lowest Orlando rate was $103 one way and lowest Tampa rate was $151 one way!! Weird considering Tampa is 15 minutes closer in terms of travel time.

I agree though, they are trying to screw everyone who has cancelled trips and have travel credits. Luckily the travel credits are good until September 7th, 2022.

Sadly most Americans are going to be looking at a lot more driving trips in the future.

New Orleans Situation by August?

Before we start, yes I'm from Bay St. Louis originally and I know LA and MS in August is painfully hot (it's no different here in FL).

I was supposed to take a friend to New Orleans in late March (obviously that didn't happen) who hasn't been to the city in probably at least 20 years. At first when we were told it would only be a few weeks to flatten the curve I looked at late April. Then after the Stay at Home order was announced I changed it to Memorial Day weekend. Obviously neither of those happened.

So at this point I've looked at early August before we get into the heart of Hurricane season. My friend is pretty hooked up and will be able to get us a nice Marriott or Sheraton property (looking at the Sheraton on Canal or the Four Points on Bourbon Street, the Four Points is my preference). Even if my friend doesn't want to go until the fall part of me wants to just go somewhere.

I know some things in New Orleans have started to reopen, but what's the overall feel in the CBD and French Quarter? What is the situation with restaurants, museums and live music? Any indications on what the situation will be like in New Orleans by early August?
I work at Disney (not in the parks or resorts) so hopefully I can provide some context. Disney has over 77,000 Cast Members so like others said it's hard to flip a switch. Disney has twice the amount of theme parks and just over twice the amount of employees as Universal.

We have been told absolutely nothing and at this point I'm still on furlough and honestly don't mind.

Like many of you when Universal Orlando announced they were opening June 5th and SeaWorld Orlando announced they were opening June 10th I thought Disney would open mid-June. I was surprised but I honestly think Disney made the right decision and is using Universal and SeaWorld as guinea pigs to see what works and what doesn't.

Disney is following the same blueprint they used in Shanghai. Disney Town (their shopping and dining district) opened a month and a half before their parks opened. So the time frame here is very similar.

What you need to understand is that Disney is reliant on a lot of interns to run the parks at night. They have College Program Cast Members, International College Program Cast Members and Cultural Representatives (the ones who work at the countries at Epcot). You might ask what is the difference between International College Program Cast Members and Cultural Representatives. The International College Program Cast Members are here for around 6 months and they're interns so they don't get any benefits (vacation, health benefits, pension, 401k). The Cultural Representatives are here for a year representing their country and are considered full time Cast Members with benefits (vacation, health benefits, pension, 401k). By sending them all home Disney has lost a good amount of its workforce and a big part of its workforce that run the parks at night.

Honestly I'm surprised they are opening Epcot. I honestly thought Epcot would stay closed until further notice. I don't see how they're going to run World Showcase since they won't have the Cultural Representatives. I mean it's going to funny to see Americans working in the China, Japan or Morocco pavilions.

I agree with the one poster who mentioned Disney wanted to open late August. August is the next time frame where they would be bringing in College Program Cast Members and International College Program Cast Members. They could report to property in early August, go through training and then be ready for the property to open later in August. Now that Disney is going to be relying on full time and part time Cast Members who are not interns I think they're going to have to reduce park hours. At least until they can get a new batch of College and International Cast Members.

I also think Disney realizes that air travel is still jacked up right now and most people come to Disney by air travel. Not much reason to open the parks if they aren't going to be busy. The parks won't return to being really busy until the air travel industry starts to recover. This is where the California parks (Disneyland Resort, Universal Hollywood) could have an advantage. Their customer base for the California parks is much more local than for the Florida parks. I think Universal and SeaWorld will both be slow after the initial rush.

Heck I fully expect to be brought back to my department a week or two back before the parks reopen. It's going to take that long to get everything ready. But it's going to be interesting to say the least.
