If you test more you will find more, especially with a prevalence of 5-15%. What did their icu utilization rate do? U Pitt just opened back up and basically said this is all bullshite.

I’m not picking sides but I assume this to be both parties. Let’s face it, neither party would have done worth a shite here- we are ultra exposed, hard to corral, etc. I think trump seems like a dumbass in his press conferences, but I sure don’t think he has done any worse than anyone else would have.

Damn straight. I’ve been saying it for a month but I don’t have a PhD in epidemiology. The biggest thing here is that Sweden had a plan, it was going to suck for a bit but there was an end and a goal. Our plan started with a goal that was met but then we haven’t said shite about plans or goals after that. So we have just stagnated without reason.
re: Since 9/10 NY covid-19 patients who are put on ventilators die, where is this headline?
Posted by Emmit Fitzhume on 4/26/20 at 11:00 am to LSUAlum2001
But probably 100% of those vent patients would have died without it instead of 90%. People aren’t getting intubated unless they are about to die.

In December?

Must be dangerous to know you. The odds of knowing two healthy 30 year olds (or hell even not so healthy) that both caught and then died from it (mortality rate in that age range is less than the flu) are what, 1 in a whole hell of a lot anyway.
re: This virus was perfectly designed for a pandemic.

If I was designing for devastation it would look more like Ebola with a long asymptotic incubation- but I guess if you wanted to design something to kill off the elderly for some reason then yeah- this would be a good design

How many times do I have to debunk this. It’s just not accurate. Just google Amdahl u penn covid or look at my history for a link

That’s because you have been misdiagnosed
re: phase 2 and 3 reopening predictions?
Posted by Emmit Fitzhume on 4/18/20 at 8:11 am to PrinceVegeta
Pretty sure we aren’t going to hold everything for 18 months waiting on a vaccine that will probably be as effective as the flu vaccine and a bunch of people won’t even take it. The big jump is slowing down and there will be a slow burn for a good while. What we are able to do will be determined by how slow of a burn it turns out to be. The big jump was far less than predicted but substantial, so I’m going to guess about the same going forward. There will be people getting sick and dying from this but health systems will not be stretched and the world will go on.

This has been pretty well debunked by a doc named Amdahl at penn. I’m no good at links or I’d provide one but this hypothesis doe not seem to hold water

You might have to understand the difference between a producing physician and a purely academic one. One is paid on how many widgets he produces and the other on how many asses he kisses.

Quit being a dipshit. Flu is the most valid comparison we have in modern times and it’s built into the covid models for fricks sake. No one is saying it’s the same thing but comparisons are valid and valuable.
You could compare it to Ebola or bubonic plague (far less similarities) and no one says anything but if you compare it to the most similar infection in modern times there are 30% of the population that just fricking cry
