From WAFB
"He was released just 16 hours later after posting a $20,250 bond set by Commissioner Kinasiyumki “Kina” Kimble, records show."
"Deputies say they observed a “single Marijuana blunt” in the ashtray of the Mustang, leading them to also charge him with Possession of Marijuana. Records show Commissioner Kimble dismissed the marijuana charge due to a lack of probable cause."

Suspect Arrested After Crashing Into 2 EBRSO Units During Pursuit Near Highland and Perkin

From "Just Baton Rouge" Facebook
Around 1:00AM Saturday, April 30th deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriffs Office were investigating reports of individuals shutting down intersections to do donuts on Perkins Rd. near the YMCA .
The deputies saw two Ford Mustangs lined up in what appeared to be the start of a drag race on Perkins Rd. One of the vehicles took off after spotting the marked EBRSO unit and ran through the red signal light at Perkins and Siegen in an attempt to elude officers.
Deputies began chasing the vehicle which reached speeds in excess of 80mph, crossing the center line of Perkins several times.
The vehicle reached Highland Rd. and continued across onto Highlandia Dr. before coming upon the gated entrance to the Country Club of Louisiana. The driver then made a U turn and crashed into one of the EBRSO units that was chasing him. The vehicle continued on towards Highland, where it crashed head on into a 2nd EBRSO unit turning onto Highlandia to assist. That crash injured one of the 2 deputies inside the unit.
After crashing into the 2nd unit, the vehicle continued towards Highland, struck a mailbox and stalled out due to the amount of damage from the 3 crashes.
The suspect, Dazjuan Varnado, 22 of Zachary, was taken into custody by deputies after being tased for refusal to comply.
Varnado was charged with 3 counts of Hit & Run, Resisting an Officer, Disobeying a Red Light, Aggravated Battery and Possession of Marijuana.
He was transported to the EBR Parish Prison where he was released later that day.

re: Louisiana legislature introduces HB729 which bans publishing booking photos (mugshots)

I follow all major news outlets in England. The common practice there is to only announce names/photos after conviction. Morally this is a better practice. Innocent peoples lives are routinely ruined by false accusations.
THE PROBLEM is that the current trend of lax DAs and judges leads to less convictions than are warranted.
Personally, I would be fine with withholding names and photos from all those charged with crimes until they are found GUILTY. As long as this applied to EVERYONE. The current practice only protects certain groups.
