I went through in 2001, so I'm not sure how much it has changed. HMU at username@yahoo.com and I'll answer whatever questions I can. I was 27 or so when I started, so I can probably speak to your age concerns. Good luck and Semper Fi.
Your two best options are a Chromebook or buying a refurbished laptop off Tigerdirect.com.

My daughter just bought a sub $300 Acer Chromebook and loves it.

I have bought three Windows laptops off Tigerdirect. Look for off-lease business models that have been refurbished. I would look for one that has 6 to 8 gigs of RAM and an I5 (or better) processor. My most recent purchase was $170.00 for the above specs. You can find HP models for $170 to $250 with the above specs and a 500gb to 1TB hard drive.

Most come with a one year warranty. I have never had any issues and we have had them for several years. The price is cheap enough for me that if I have an issue, I can just buy another one.
If you don't want to get shot or arrested, try the fruit stand in Port Allen. They used to sell them. On the right side of Highway 415 if you are headed towards 190 from Baton Rouge.

You're right. I'm glad my intel was bad. Angus is the heart of the band.
Angus has health issues and isn't touring. I believe his nephew is taking his place. Sucks.

re: Nexus 6...no SD card?

If you are interested in a phone with a large screen, and an SD card, why wouldn't you consider a Note 4? It's screen is closer in size to the Nexus 6 than the S5.
It's barely South of Alexandria, but there is one on Highway 3170 just past LSUA. 3170 is the highway that runs between US 71 and Highway 1. They have a good selection.

That is one seriously depressing book for anyone who has small children.
My concerns stem from a battery life test that showed the G3 having about 2 and a half hours less web browsing time than the Note 3, and almost 3 hours less than the S5. Video playback was about the same. On a positive note, the G3 was rated as having 1 and a half hours more web browsing time than the S3, which I'm also coming from. I realize everyone's real world battery life experiences vary greatly.
I'm in the same boat. I require a removable battery. I'm waiting to see how battery life is on the Note 4. I like the G3, but have concerns about the battery life.
Another upvote for Nova. I've never noticed any problems whatsoever with it. I'm about to get a Note and I plan on immediately installing Nova. If you are having battery issues, consider installing CM11 (if your phone is supported) and run Nova on top of that. Your phone will have a new lease on life.
You should try Nova Launcher. It will greatly improve your Samsung experience. There's a free and paid version.

I don't think I've ever seen more than 6-7 mbps.

Stop complaining. I just got 3.8 mbps. Hell, my upload speed was faster. I get what you are saying though.

Eta: A T & T in Alexandria.
I like the Nexus line but I'd also like a phone with a removable battery. History doesn't suggest the new Nexus will have one.

I went from S3 -> LG G3 and I am satisfied in every way

I'm about to upgrade from an S3. What kind of improvement can I expect in battery life with the G3?

State government

With the military you also get social security. You don't get that with state government.
Yep. The only issue is the military sponsor can only purchase six tickets.
