First I think the most important component for a successful head coach is leadership. Organization, structure, consistency, decision making, likeability(recruiting advantage), respect, and yes motivation are important components among others. Being the head coach and control of everything from practice to influence on team culture are much different than any assistant job. It is why some coaches are great as assistants and seem destined for great head coaches. It can go both ways. My opinion is Orgeron has a number of great characteristics and I believe Lane is one of the best OC.

Great motivator, will always have the Tigers ready to play. 2nd best recruiter in the country. People want to play for him.

Keep orgeron as HC. Pay him, but nothing huge. He wants to be the HC of LSU and would be more than happy with 3 million a year. Hire Kiffin as OC and pay him 2.5 million a year. The same goes for Aranda.
