re: Devin White Opens up Spring Practice with the LB's

It's easy to see who is clueless with this comment. Peveto is Aranda's most important assistant this year. O is a great DL coach and will have that group ready, but Aranda will rely upon on Peveto to keep the LB's steady as Arranda ensures the DB's are on schedule as the defense is being installed.

Let me get this straight, LSU Grandad. You need proof that there's turmoil at LSU coming from Alleva's desire to get rid of Miles and hire his own football coach? I guess we are not allowed to read and watch events unfold and use our own brains to actually come up with our own views on what happened? Amazing you want proof of Alleva's pitiful little attempt to put his fingerprint on the program, by firing Miles and hiring another home run head coach like Ted Roof. But just to help you out, Google "Alleva" and in the first page of results will be just a few of the great national stories from less than 30 days ago hammering Alleva for trying to run a very successful coach out of town without a solid replacement or a plan B. Alleva has embarrassed LSU and hurt the brand with his latest move like nobody has since the Hallman days.

Agreed on the Freshmen and Sophomores not playing, but developing while backing up excellent juniors and seniors, getting practice reps with the 2's and 3's, and getting stronger through Moffitt's program. However, Mett did play all five years (first at UGA, 2nd at Juco, last three at LSU), and was amazing his 5th year. If we could recruit more like him, and develop them on the same timeline (like Flynn, Mauck, etc.), we'd be much stronger at QB. The NFL CBA changes in '12 changed the college game.
re: So Chavis begged Cam to take foot off gas against Georgia?

OBJ was a great player at LSU, but you are right about this. We had just made a great stop, and Mett would have likely taken us down and scored again to put us up two scores, and the game would have been very different if OBJ just saw the ball all the way in, ensured the catch, and didn't try to do too much. Coaches always say that a big game will usually hinge on one or two plays, and you never know when they will happen. That was the play that changed that game.
re: Advocate: Glimpse of LSU quarterback competition article

This is such garbage from the scrub Advocate wanna be writer. Word is that the ex players spoke to Dellenrook and he promised he would protect them as his sources. Then he makes it known his sources are a former fullback and tight end who played last year and have graduated. Just outed his sources! Let's see which active players will even talk to this loser this season. Message to Advocate: get rid of the attention whore crap writer and get a real sportswriter to complement Rabalais!
re: RS Freshman & Starting Center Clapp on Harris
Posted by TBoltright on 7/30/15 at 5:33 am to ForeLSU
I feel better about this o line than I have for some years. Solid across the board, should be extremely effective in our running game yet give whatever QB plays the time to get the ball out accurately. If other positions work out, this offense could be pretty good.

Clapp is going to be a good one. Leadership, by all reports works hard and is respected by the other players. I'm looking forward to seeing him play this year.

Switching gears, it's nice to see how well Booger seems to be doing in his new career. He's insightful and people like hearing what he says. He has credibility with the coaches and players. Kind of wish we could get a newspaper guy like that to replace Dellendoosh, who does not give us any good insight and seems hellbent on screwing up whatever he can with LSU football. Looks to have no credibility with the coaches or players. This program and LSU fans deserve better than Dellendoosh.
re: Charges against Jennings asked to be dropped.
Posted by TBoltright on 7/30/15 at 5:13 am to jlovel7
Dellenger has to be the most unprofessional hack writer in the state (including Guilblow, who actually has a shred of professionalism). Miles talks to a community service organization, touches on the legal situation of Jennings and other LSU players, and asks the writers present to please not write about that issue. Dellendoosh then immediately tweets it. This guy is such a hack who cares zero about being a professional writer. Needs to move on back to Mississippi and open up a spot for someone who can actually write, and who will have a level of credibility with the coaching staff and players.
Dellendoosh's tweet immediately after Miles' comment:
Miles: "Please don't write that in the paper. PLEASE." #LSU

re: How much will Trey Quinn & Lanard Fournette contibute to the team this season?
Posted by TBoltright on 7/28/15 at 1:42 pm to Makinbacon
You make a great point with A Cooper. He may have had a few drops, but he also seemed to get a lot more chances, made a lot of catches, and one or two spectacular plays a game. And Odell and Jarvis dropped a few early, but put in the time and got reps behind them to solve that. They turned out to be pretty good, so I'm not that worried about our young receivers now.
re: How much will Trey Quinn & Lanard Fournette contibute to the team this season?
Posted by TBoltright on 7/28/15 at 7:47 am to BigBrod81
Quinn is a very good wr, who runs great routes, has good speed, and somehow got open a lot last year. He was a very good HS player, in a system set up for him to shine. He had Jared Foster throwing to him, and other great talent on that Barbe team so opponents could not focus solely on him. However, TQ started at WR last year for LSU as a true freshman. There's a reason why, in the past, players at LSU sat and watched their true freshman year. LSU had experienced, more mature players who were just better than the freshmen. With the junior NFL draft departures of so many players since 2012, opportunities have opened up that door for great fundamentally sound players like Quinn. Unfortunately, we saw that when an 18 year old is playing in a huge game (such as vs Bama) in front of 102,000, oftentimes the maturity is not there to allow them to perform at the same high level as vs NM State or ULM. And then when the young players drop a catchable and important pass, it affects the game. For example, the pass to a very inexperienced FB vs Bama on the first OT play for LSU. He was just not ready for that kind of pressure, and the pressure was so big after his dropped pass that he disappeared from the LSU team and the program altogether. Quinn had two drops vs Bama that could have altered the outcome, but he's still on the team, competing against great young talent, and is apparently performing well in that respect. So he is still out there, competing, making LSU a stronger team. He may get passed up by Chark or Diarse or some young star, but the result will be that LSU will be putting the best guys on the field vs a very tough SEC schedule this year. Which is how it should be. So let's not jump to throw a young player overboard if he makes a mistake or two, let's watch to see how he handles that adversity and responds this year. Because he just may be the difference vs Bama this year, or it may be a guy he pushed to make better, like Chark or Diarse, who is the difference maker and helps us win a big game.
re: Kevin Steele
Posted by TBoltright on 7/26/15 at 9:41 pm to monsterballads
WVU ran for 70 and threw for 463 in '11, and their passing yards were only after we had a commanding lead and Chavis decided to trade passing yards for clock and get LSU a win against a good team. Can't really say that WVU's domination of Steele's Clemson defense is similar to what WVU did against Chavis' D, because they are totally different situations.
re: Is Ed O the best hire Miles has made at LSU?
Posted by TBoltright on 7/26/15 at 9:28 pm to Statsattack
D line is not easy to coach, is highly technical and the successful d line coach has to have sufficient numbers of mature and motivated players to have success in the SECw. I feel confident O will have his players motivated to play each week, but not so confident that he will have 10-12 guys ready to rotate in and keep guys fresh to dominate in the 4th quarter. Hopeful, but we will see by November.

Posted by TBoltright on 7/26/15 at 4:23 pm to TGFN57
Agree 100% that the o line did not play well vs Bama on 1/9/12, and that was a major key to the game. Our D held them to fg's repeatedly, but eventually wore down. Also agree that the average fan watches QB's and DB's, and if we win, say that those positions played great. Few younger or non football playing fans realize that the lines dictate success or failure. LSU was decimated by early draft entrants after the '12 and '13 seasons, and it's not surprising that our defenses the following seasons were less effective. Now we have Lacouture and Godchaux returning, with a veteran QT who we hope is great, but we are a long way from the 10-12 D linemen we played in '10 and '11. Hope a lot of them step up and have a great year, because we're going to need them to have a stellar year.
re: Saban wanted to come back to Michigan State according to book
Posted by TBoltright on 7/25/15 at 5:03 pm to cas4t
I'm happy Saban left Mich St to come to BR, and he improved a lot of things involving LSU football, but he was not the savior people say he was. Remember UAB - how would that go over now if we lost to W Ky? People forget the losses and remember the NC in '03. I'm very satisfied with our present staff- Saban can go wherever he wants to and I don't care.

Just getting back to this conversation, as our dog got into it with a bobcat in the woods behind our house, and I needed to see how that was going.
To those in the hollow who continue to try to pick a bad game someone played to re- write history and make their case that JJ was a horrible QB, I remember some good things he did for LSU football over his time in BR. I like to think that if he had only one OC in his career, instead of 3 or 4, he may have picked up the game plans and may not have played as badly at some times. Other times, such as against Bama in the '11 regular season game, he came in when JL was having a rough time and gave us exactly what his coaches asked of him. And we won. He was not as horrible as many like to say- but his last LSU game happened to be the NC game, and Saban had 6 weeks (yeah, Bama got to sit at home the first week of December, with no opponent to game plan for other than LSU, while we were in Atlanta fighting it out with Georgia) to prepare for him. Saban is very good when given the prep time like that, not as good when faced with surprises ( like Les playing JJ in the reg season game after JL had played virtually all year). '11 was possibly the best LSU team in history, and only happened because we had a seasoned and effective JL ready to play after the Shady's fiasco. And 10-12 DL rolling in and dominating opponents in the 2nd half. The lines determine how far a team can go.

I did go back and watch the Bama 2nd quarter when Beckwith had to go to the locker room. But the D forced a field goal attempt, and Bama's kicker hit the upright, so Bama was still scoreless. Beckwith returned to the game on Bama's next series, at LSU's 33, and Bama scored a few plays later on a slant to Amari Cooper. Beckwith was on the field for all of Bama's scores. He has the opportunity to be a great one, but we did not see greatness from him vs Auburn, Arkansas, A&M, or ND. If his d line improves, he can be much better. D line just needs to be better this year and we have a chance to be great.
