re: My concerns w McCarthy

Posted by bilblues on 1/21/25 at 5:29 pm
I would actually be OK with McCarthy. He had a really good 4-year run as Saints Offensive Coordinator in the early 2000s. Until Brees and Payton and the pass-happy trend we have now, he had the best offenses in Saints history and usually near the top of the NFL season rankings. We won our first playoff game ever with McCarthy as OC. And our QB was Aaron Brooks.
My son is 8 years in the Army. Has a job he really likes, money in the bank, getting cloe to a bachelors degree. At 17, your son can't sign anything himself even if we wanted to. Go with him to every recruiting appointment and help him make good choices. That's what we did with our kid.

The Galley had a good bit of variety (kind of like a grab and go food hall). For dinner, Mexican, Italian, and Korean BBQ were the best to us. Also most bars have some sort of food menu -- grilled shrimp, wings, sliders, etc.

Took our first Virgin cruise this summer. Will definitely do another one, though not the same itinerary.

Pluses: 1) no kids, 2) better food in a variety of smaller restaurants that you schedule yourself, 3) lots of bars, 4) top notch service, 5) good entertainment.

Minuses 1) didn't love the short Caribbean itinerary, 2) too much focus on specialty drinks -- just wanted them to be good at the classics.
I thought they lost it on the 3rd down call when we sprinted Carr out and did a direct snap to Kamara for no gain. When your O-line is getting crushed in the run game, the direct snap has a pretty small chance of working with a smaller back. I'd have been OK with Taysom, but that was not a great call in that circumstance.

As a political independent, I hate this idea. If the parties (which are private political organizations) want to have a process for winnowing down to their preferred candidate, they should do it privately and pay for it privately, and only put their best candidate up.

Why should my tax dollars go to a process that I can't fully participate in?
Raiders were a prolific passing offense with Carr and Gruden. Top 10 or close to it every year. He didn’t suddenly forget how to throw a football.

Our offensive design is the problem.

The paper's English translation speculates that the Saints could have a return trip to Europe this year to play the Patriots in Frankfurt.

The Pats are the home team and possible opponents include Buffalo, Miami, NYJ, Chiefs, Eagles, Chargers, Commanders, Saints, and Colts.

Divisional games are most likely out and Chiefs are hosting their own game in Germany, so that leaves Eagles, Chargers, Commanders, Colts, and Saints.

What are the chances they'd send us back to Europe?
Can someone with a legal background tell us what this might mean for Dominion's suits against Powell and Giuliani?

I've always love the way the dialogue between Moses and Nefretiri.

Nefretiri: Oh, Moses, Moses! Why of all men did I fall in love with the Prince of Fools? Why must you deny me and yourself?
Moses: Because I am bound to a God, and to a people, and to a shepherd girl.
Nefretiri: A shepherd girl? What can she be to you unless the desert sun has dulled your senses? Does she grate garlic on her skin or is it soft as mine? Are her lips chafed and dry as the desert sand or are they moist and red like a pomegranate? Is it the fragrance of myrrh that scents her hair or is it the odor of sheep?
Thanks for this. My takeaway from the article is that Willis has the biggest upside and that if things break right and he continues to develop, he would be really special. That's a big if.

The consensus from these insiders on the other top prospects is that they project to be pretty good quarterbacks. Mid-tier to bottom half of the league starters.

I'd rather ride with Jameis and Dalton and add first-round WR and OL talent than spend draft capital on a QB who probably won't be better then the guys we already have.
We don't need to trade for a WR unless we're trying to get a legit #2 to compliment Thomas. Callaway, Harris, and Humphrey are going to be fine as long as they don't have to fully carry the load. We also have Johnson, but I don't know if the Saints are looking at him exclusively as a TE or another big WR.

Trading for a guy who's another 3rd wideout at best doesn't make sense.
Yep. Was stationed in Frankfurt. It was a pretty cool time to be there. All my career, we'd been focused on the cold war military threat and preparing to defend an attack from East Germany, and then it was over just like that.

We were all amazed at how fast it happened.

Used to have a piece of the wall, but no idea what happened to it. Probably in a box somewhere
I travelled quite a bit when my son was younger, but had enough flexibility to ensure I didn't miss much.

I actually got off the road when he got to high school. I just felt like being home every day as he was beginning to transition to an adult and as he began to navigate social relationships and outside influences was critical.

re: I want a Deebo!

Part of what makes Deebo successful is that teams can't only key on him. If you do, you get killed by Kittle, Aiyuk, or Mitchell.

This year we had one weapon -- Kamara!

Not a fair comparison.

re: USA Today early Mock Draft

I was never the biggest fan of drafting WR early, but the guys coming out of college are such big time difference makers now that you really need one. It seems like there are 4-5 guys in each draft that are matchup nightmares for defenses right out of the gate, whereas in the past, it took receivers a few years.

Getting one of the top college WR on a rookie deal has to be a priority.
It's not a COVID thing. It was bad before. I'm a season ticket holder, and I haven't eaten anything other than popcorn since 2017.
This is an issue. I was at the game yesterday and it was clear that our receivers rarely created any separation.

I’m not sure if it’s scheme or route running, but Jones had guys running wide open regularly and we almost never did.

What did we have yesterday? Montgomery was I think 3rd or 4th round pick, our tight end was 5th I think, and everyone else undrafted.
In 2013 or 2014, Tumblr sold for I think around a billion dollars to Verizon and Yahoo. With no porn, they offloaded it a couple of years ago for $3 million.
