South Carolina freshman linebacker Jalen Dread announced this week that he will be transferring out of the program.

He went public with his announcement via Twitter:

He is the fifth Gamecock to transfer in Will Muschamp's first season as head coach.

Crack in the cornerstones. Will Muschamp will load that team with talent for the next guy who takes over in 2 more seasons.

Didn't know much about Dread: he was red-shirted last season I believe, and wasn't recruited heavily so when he committed to USC to begin with, a lot of peeps went, "who is that?" The transfer of LB Sherrod Pittman was bigger IMO. I was looking forward to him becoming a contributor next season. We'll be fine with the starting unit with Moore and Allen-Williams leading the way, but the depth after them becomes more of a question mark....
