Once the refs start flopping, all bets are off in Ecuador...

Per thesun.co.uk...
quote:

AN ECUADORIAN referee was smacked in the face and floored after awarding a late penalty and red card. Macara's Alvaro Cazula conceded a late penalty with VAR supporting referee Alex Cajas' call.

Coaching staff on the touchline protested the decision, leading to a physical altercation and numerous coaches being shown red cards.

Elcomercio say Macara goalkeeper coach, Hector Lautaro Chiriboga, landed a blow to Cajas' face, causing the referee to fall to the floor.

A policeman with a riot shield was forced to stand by the referee while tensions were diffused.

Ref should be happy he wasn't in Columbia. After the 1994 World Cup a cartel killed a player who committed an own goal that allowed the US to beat them.

True, but that had more to do with Pablo Escobar and cocaine than anything else.

such a silly game. With a few rule changes it could be good, but there's so much wrong with it - and I've genuinely tried to embrace it. It's just too flawed. And the purist (but the world loves it!!!) will never tweak the rules to improve it, as most sports do. Even stodgy golf made some pretty big changes in the last couple years.

WTF are you talking about? It's called the beautiful game for a reason. You want to enlighten us backwards fans as to what you would change?

I am also curious to what exactly you think should change? Have you ever been to a professional soccer game of any sorts? I am going to go out on a limb and say your comment is based solely on ignorance. They frickin added VAR, which nobody thought they would ever do...
