Just go to 9 games, already. Add a quality OOC opponent and two rent-a-win games and call it good.

The whole point of going to 9 was to play a bigger variety of teams while playing all division teams. If divisions are disbanded, how many games is irrelevant.

If we keep making the playoffs with 8 games. Why risk another loss with 9 games? Nothing to gain.
