I'm planning a trip for Yosemite late summer of 2018. For those of you that have been there, how long should I plan for. Note: my hiking days are long gone, so any walking would have to be a fairly short stretch. Would 2 days be enough?

I went last year but I only went for the panoramic hike from glacier point down to the bottom. It was a 8 mile hike that took 4-1/2 hours. I could have easily spent 2-3 days there. It's absolutely breath taking and amazing.

If you're not hiking, I'm not sure how many days would be worth it. Sorry I can't offer any good advice bc I just went for a day trip.

Get on google earth and look at the uploaded picks so u can layout ur route as to what u really want to see.
I would think 2 days would be plenty from the car.
You can walk up to the Lower Yosemite Falls
I went last year. Kings Canyon, just south of Yosemite, was a nice ride too.

Take 3 days. We did this about 8-9 years ago. Same thing short walks and car.
Go down to the south side of the park to Wawona and the giant redwood area.
Then stay at the lodge at the falls in the valley. Check out the sights in the valley and walk to all of the falls.
You can see people climbing the walls on some days. Be sure to check out what is going on with the park rangers. The hotel has info.
Tubing in the river if that is your thing. It is pretty awesome.
Then take a ride up to Hetch-Hetchy reservoir and and then up to Taloumme Meadows and the pass. All awesome spots. We went out over the pass and then down to Death Valley to Vegas to end our trip.
Yosemite is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Wanted to bump this since it was a rather recent thread. I'm looking at planning a trip this summer. Since all of the hotels/campgrounds are booked, does anyone have suggestions on where to stay just outside of the park? If possible, I am thinking something similar to how Estes Park is to RMNP.

TIA

2 days might be enough without doing any hiking. The views are stunning but after a while the crowds wear you down. Definitely drive up to Glacier Point and all the way into the valley. It's also worth a drive over Tioga pass, check out Saddlebag Lake near the summit. And Mono Lake on the east side is worth a stop. There is also an abandoned mining town north of Mono Lake that is interesting. So maybe 2 days for Yosemite and another for the east side.

Most places you stay outside the park are going to entail a drive of an hour or so to reach the valley floor, so keep that in mind when planning your time.

I've twice stayed at Hotel Charlotte in Groveland. This is on Hwy 120 and is a great jumping off point for a visit to Hetch Hetchy.

20+ years ago I stayed at Cedar Lodge in El Portal (Hwy 140). This is much closer to the valley floor than Groveland.

I know there are places to stay in Fish Camp (Hwy 41) and Buck Meadows but I've never checked them out. I'm sure Tripadvisor has a lot of information about other non-park lodging.

Depending on how much time you can spend in the area I'll throw out another possibility. I've twice stayed in Lee Vining. The tufa towers in Mono Lake (there at Lee Vining) are very interesting. Bodie State Historic Park (a gold mining ghost town) is nearby. A couple of days around Lee Vining should do it and then take the Tioga Pass (Hwy 120) over the mountains and down into the valley. If you made the drive early enough you could spend the rest of the day there before heading somewhere for the night. I believe your park pass is good for five days so you could return to the park for additional day trips.

Let me also throw out that the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias isn't expected to reopen until this fall. If you want to see sequoias and have the time Calveras Big Trees State Park is a little over an hour from Groveland (near Arnold, CA).

Going in July, planning on doing four mile-panorama-mist trail, think it ends up being around 13 miles. Looking forward to it since I haven't ever been, it's only 3 hours away can't believe I've never been.
