Would you rent a car from Hertz?

Friends,
Mother and I have three vacations planned this summer. Two will require rental cars. The third is to NYC where we will use public transit and walk.
Shopping the rental cars has been eye opening. Our credit card rewards travel option gives us a weekly rental for $850. Going through the rental company websites isn’t much better. However, there are weekly rentals for $350 on Hertz.
Will the Hertz bankruptcy cause me to lose this money? What are your thoughts on renting from Hertz right now?

If your credit card company is offering $850/week you are getting ripped off. The only time you should see that kind of pricing is if you are traveling the week of thanksgiving and need a minivan and are booking at the last minute.
I can’t speak for where Hertz will be at the time of your vacation, but you have other options like Enterprise (National and Alamo) and Avis (Budget).
Out of curiosity I looked up pricing for a week in SFO for 4th of July week and there are tons of options sub $500.

Friend,
Is it a luxury car? While I do not care if it’s a Yugo or a Schwin, Mother requires a luxury car. She always asks for a Mercedes, which I hate. I like Cadillac the most in the rental car luxury category.

I use Hertz all of the time bc I get a corporate discount with them. Never had any problems. Not worried about the bankruptcy filing.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I have 2 future rentals booked with Hertz that I don't plan to change.
I also never do the prepayment with them, so no concern about losing my money.

They filed Ch. 11 and not 7. Nothing to worry about.
