Wow. Yeah the car selection at hertz wasn't as good as last trip. I put that little kia optima to the test.
I saw so many cars turning sideways on I70. Some of these people that tailgate you flashing their lights and still try to drive 70 in shite like that blow my mind.

Looks like drunken is about to land in EGE so glad all American did was delay the flight and not cancel it

...looks around avoiding eye contact... My 4wd truck can handle it, around here I usually get stuck behind a subaru doing 15mph below the speed limit

Udating the OP currently. Delta has added waivers for almost the entire country (northeast, northwest, south central, and plains), will check the others and update as well. This is important for those of you scheduled to fly back on sunday or monday

Nervous about our ski trip to Tahoe. DFW is the connection of course

Supposed to arrive in DFW at 1:54 on Sunday

What if we rented a car today and set out for California. Ha...caught the return flight next weekend... is it that bad?

Happy to help here. What times/origin/destination are your flights tomorrow? I would get to dallas today if possible and leave for Cali tonight or early tomorrow morning from Dallas

There's one flight from LFT to DFW leaving at 5:05pm with a seat on it, there's one flight from MSY to DFW leaving at 4:30pm with a seat on it as well. There is no way I would trust your flight tomorrow, it is operating Ft. Hood TX to DFW to BTR to DFW (your leg). With the snow, I'd say this gets pretty delayed if not cancelled if the snow is that bad plus the amount of time it will take to de-ice in DFW for your inbound flight.

There's an 8:20pm flight from Dallas to Reno tonight that still has a bunch of seats if you can make it to DFW.

ETA: After looking at your options, if you've got more than 1 person in your party, your best bet would probably be driving to get closer to DFW today/tonight or find an airport where you can connect other than DFW. I'm assuming you're flying to Reno? If so, my suggestion would be driving to Houston and flying IAH-PHX-Reno. Leaves IAH at 6:10am, 50 min connection in Phoenix gets you in at 10:18am

Thanks Cuse. It's two of us.

Flights are BTR to DFW to Reno

12:23 out of Baton Rouge

4:50 out of Dallas

Do you have the ability to leave tonight if needed? I would not trust american eagle out of DFW tomorrow and both of your flights are on smaller planes, those will be the first to cancel or delayed if it gets bad.

On the American website, does it give you the option to change your flights? I would start browsing and see what else is available, see if it would let you rebook to IAH-PHX-RNO. I know delta usually has flexibility during travel waivers, but on AA's site it says you can't change origin or destination.

I'm all over helping you out since I'm stuck at home with 7" of snow and counting outside so I'm not going anywhere today

We can leave tonight past 8:00 PM, but we are not made of money

Cheapest change is $833/person.

Alright, so my recommendation is to get on the 10:25am flight from BTR to DFW. Try and change this online immediately if possible. I see 3 seats in economy, this will give you a longer layover but at least you'll get to dallas in case they cancel your flight to reno while you are there

That 10:25am flight has the plane arriving in BTR this afternoon and sitting overnight, there shouldn't be any de-icing delays since BTR is above freezing. You may need to call if you're unable to do this online unfortunately. Ideally you could get on the 7am BTR-DFW, but it's not even showing as available meaning it's likely sold out. If you do call, maybe they can get you on that one. Twitter is also an option if you are able to reach them on there versus a 2 hr wait on the phone

What we would love is to get on the 7:35 AM flight to DFW. That was our ORIGINAL flight when we booked in September. Our friends who we are skiing with are ON that flight! I thought I had just secured that flight, but when we got our confirmations it was the afternoon flight!

I'm not seeing any option for mid morning to DFW from BTR, and AA is now saying that I can't change online. They are supposed to call me back soon.

AA's website is calling the 7:35 AM flight a "standby flight"

I've called twice in the past 10 days trying to get on the damn flight that we orignally chose that they booted us from

Ugh sounds like a shitty situation. If you try to make a separate booking for BTR-DFW tomorrow morning, there are 3 economy seats for sale on the 10:25am. When they call you back (hopefully very soon while there is still availability), at least get on the 10:25am one. If we see later today that availability shows up on the 7:35am flight, then you can call back again and get rebooked on that one. You can also ask them to put you standby on that 7:35am flight, but if you dont make it then you are stuck sitting in the BTR airport for 3 extra hours

Yup, so get confirmed on the 10:25am and go standby on the 7:35am is what I'd suggest given the current status. When they call back you can also ask how many are on the standby list for the 7:35am/whether it looks like you'll make it. If there's 20 people on the list, then it's not worth it

If you're really feeling like you want to avoid Dallas tomorrow, you could do MSY-MIA-PHX-RNO...

Thanks for your help!

Hopefully, last question.

What does the 10:35 AM flight from BTR to DFW help with? When can we get out of DFW in that scenario?

That flight will specifically help you in getting to an American hub during a weather event with a plane that is already sitting on the ground in baton rouge. It will give you a longer layover that gives a comfortable buffer rather than worrying about "will i make my connection". The advice I got from an AA agent in Chicago O'Hare- "Always take the first flight out of the day during a bad weather event". If things go downhill in Dallas, you can likely get onto a flight towards Cali/NV tomorrow rather than still being stuck in Louisiana and not potentially getting out for another 2 days. I would be very concerned about the de-icing in ft. hood and in DFW for your inbound aircraft tomorrow morning, likely causing a delay on your currently scheduled flight. Other people will miss their connections tomorrow and if that happens, you can take their seats since you'll be in DFW already

From Dallas to Reno tomorrow, there are 3 currently scheduled flights:
12:08pm, 4:50pm, and 7pm

I wouldn't trust the 7pm to go and even the 4:50pm is right on the cusp of when the snow will start coming down heavy. If you can get on that 10:35am and make it in time to DFW for the 12:08pm (hopefully that gets delayed), then rush to that gate and get on that flight. If your flight to RNO gets cancelled, there is a 4:55pm flight to Sacramento that you can take (AA2697)

I'm on hold now. This lady is very helpful.
I'm currently on standby for 7:35 AM

and she's checking on 10:35 AM in hopes of the 12:08 out of Dallas being delayed.

the 10:35 out of BTR will put us in DFW at 12:00
is that worth the gamble??

The best option could be hauling arse to DFW in a rental car tonight and catching the 12:08 tomorrow. Thoughts?

That is your best option, but I didn't want to put you in a situation to drive 6 hours tonight if you didn't want to do so

Also can you even find a rental car?? I looked earlier and wasn't seeing availability

Eh...want to say yes but I saw that accident thread in ft. worth from the tiny bit of freezing rain/snow/ice they got a few days ago. I'd try to make it there before all that started coming down.

If you're willing to drive, I'd probably do houston-phoenix-reno early tomorrow morning. It's 4 hours to houston and you'd have to connect, but you avoid dallas

There's a greyound that leaves baton rouge at 7:45pm tonight getting into houston at 1:45am...
