We booked our stay in Punta Cana for June 15-22. We get free cancellation until June 8th, prices were good so we just booked it since there is nothing to lose. Airline ticket prices however, are insane. The most affordable, which is still more than an entire week at our all inclusive, is JetBlue from MSY to JFK but it leaves the next day. 22 hours of travel to go to the Caribbean. Anything with a decent layover is over $1000. Have airlines just not released much for the summer yet?

Google flights is showing decent layovers around $850 and prices as high with those dates from MSY.
You can turn on alerts if you scroll down the page and it will let you k ow when prices change. Once it goes down to a price you can live with in the average zone - purchase. Be careful of gambling waiting on low fares and having to cancel because they go back up high.

Have you considered a drive over to Houston or Dallas for your flight.? Just a quick search of those dates showed to be much better than what you said you’re seeing outta Msy

I feel like that's overpriced for the route but I haven't looked at msy-caribbean in a while. It's been 3-4 months for the first sales then up to a month before before prices skyrocket. I'd expect this to go down at least a few hundred

The savings between fares would have to be astronomical for me to consider 5 hour drives before and after a vacation.

I don’t think prices are going down. Just my uninformed opinion.

You can find decent prices if you have no restrictions on when you travel. Most of us though can only take off at certain times/dates. Those prices don’t seem to be going down at all. Been watching a flight to Europe in October and it won’t budge more than a dollar or two up or down.

Good Luck!

Yeah I get it. I am not sure where OP lives but being in central Louisiana for me it’s just as quick to get to Houston as New Orleans. Dallas is just a tad further. I refuse to pay almost double to fly out of a regional airport.
