We are flying in for a wedding mid September to the Tri-City area. While the fastest route would be to fly to Pasco, and cheapest Spokane or Seattle, I'm thinking of possibly flying further away and taking a couple days to get there in a rental. What does the wonderful people of the Travel Board think about good cities to fly into and make a trip out of? Bozeman, Boise, Salt Lake? The only states I have been to west of the Louisiana is Texas and Oklahoma so I have no idea about that area.

Honestly I'd fly into Spokane or Seattle and just drive around. Washington is one of the most beautiful states in the country. Rainier, North Cascades, Olympic National Parks, not to mention the sheer amount of beauty outside of the national parks as well. No need to fly into Boise/Bozeman/SLC.

I would say the western side of the state is probably prettier than the eastern side. I'd personally fly into Seattle. You could definitely find enough to entertain you on the eastern side though in Spokane, and that's closer to the wedding.

If you have the option fly into Spokane. Montana is a short drive and even Coer d' alene is a nice area on the border. Prepare for hot weather as the climate is much different than western WA area. More of a dry desert like area compared to Seattle.

Fly into Spokane and start from there. Coeur d'Aline is right there with Spokane. The drive from there to the coastal region gives you a realization of how different that state is. Numerous sites to see on the way toward the coast.

Toured most of WA's regions and enjoyed each. Do have to say that traffic is greatly different too. Seattle-Tacoma is as heavy as Atlanta and using 4 lane interstate roads.

Seattle, then drive through the Cascades. Younger bro lives in the tri cities, that's what I usually do, or fly into Spokane.

My Sister In Law lives in Benton City. I'm not certain where the wedding will be just yet, but I think Richland might be what she said. They have sent us pictures over the years of tumbleweeds in their yard from how dry it is in their neck of the woods.

Thanks Everyone for the Advice! I'm waiting for Southwest to allow booking for September to their cost as opposed to others. Alaska Airlines is one that flys from New Orleans up there as well. They actually go to Pasco but I think it would be easier to go to one of the bigger ones and get a rental car there.

Be sure to visit the Cascades and Olympic national park. ONP has incredible diversity and terrain. From mountains to rainforests to the Pacific Ocean.

He might get murdered. I wouldn't go personally. There's plenty of meth in Spokane and PNW rednecks to drink Oly stubbies and party.

Fly Alaska to Seattle and begin and end your journeys there. September is usually one of the best months to visit. You can take a scenic Cascades Pass each way (most scenic are North Cascades Hwy followed Chinook) or just shoot along the fast away on I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass. If you take Chinook Pass, allow a few hours to visit Sunrise in Mt. Rainier National Park.

You will be in wine country in the Tri-Cities. Zillah, Prosser, Red Mountain west of Richland, and Walla Walla are all hot spots.

Fly into Spokane and visit Coeur d'Alene and the Idaho panhandle. That’s some of the prettiest country I’ve seen and it’s not a long drive from Spokane at all.

I’ve spent some significant time in Spokane and not once encountered any methhead there. I’m not saying there aren’t any but it’s nothing like being in Livingston Parish

There's some good advice in this thread but another option that I haven't seen mentioned would be to fly into Portland and drive up I84 along the Columbia River Gorge. It's very scenic with plenty of wineries along the way to tri and you could stop for Mt Hood

This 100%.
I’m working across the sound from Seattle in Bremerton/Silverdale right now. I’m living in Seabeck & wake up to the Olympics & Hood Canal every morning.
Hell, we are thinking about buying property here for building at a later date. Where we are at has all the amenities one would need with access to Seattle via 1hr ferry ride.

All of this. Rainier doesn't look real.
