Might as well check it out before Turkey goes to complete shite. Going with the gf. Should we stay in Old Town or New Town?

I have stayed in the Old Town a couple of times at the Biz Cevahir Sultanahmet. It very convenient to most of the sights and one street over from some very good restaurants. It is also not far from the area where you can catch a water taxi for a ride up the Bosporous. Great place to go and I hope you have a good time.

I would stay in Old Town to be closer to the main historical sites and attractions. Also, if you're going during summer, I'd recommend taking a day trip to the Prince Islands.

Jealous. I cancelled my August trip after they fricked up the airport.

How safe is it to travel there? Everything you hear about is doom and gloom.

I graduated college with a guy from Jordan and have always thought it would be nice to go see that part of the world.

I went two years ago and felt very safe, but obviously there have been a number of terror attacks since then so it probably wouldn't be at the top of my travel list right now. Outside of the isolated violent events, I don't know if the day-to-day safety for tourists has gotten worse.

Woof, here we go again. This is getting sad. Keeps happening over and over.

Looking at the map, it appears I was right in that area some years ago bar hopping.

It's probably a very safe time to go....security will be on super high alert for a while.

I cancelled in August due to this stuff. They are having an attack every couple of months. On the bright side, it will just keep getting cheaper to go there. I had 10 days, round trip ticket, and a nice hotel for $1300.

I agree. I was there five years ago and liked it very much. But today after all terror attacks I couldn't feel in safe there.

Yeah. Check out the cistern near the mosques and stay in old town. Watch your wallet in the bazaar too. Good luck
