Driving to Knoxville from Nashville area for Kennesaw Game because wife’s cousin plays for ksu. Anyone have tips on parking or shuttle to Neyland Stadium. We are staying 15 minutes west of campus and were thinking of driving downtown to catch shuttle. Not really familiar with Knoxville.

You used to be able to park at the Knoxville Coliseum (across James White Parkway from the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame) and catch a shuttle bus down to campus.

It's been a good many years since we did that so I can't say for sure it still runs.

We have a group of 6 going. Flying in from Baton Rouge Thursday - Sunday. Staying 10 mins outside of Knoxville. Never been but looking forward to it.

UT Football parking and shuttle

Here's the link for the Coliseum parking and shuttle. Parking cost has gone up (used to be either $10 or $20, now $30).

Downtown and shuttle or walk is what I always do. I prefer walking if the weather is good, about a mile or so from market square.

What bars/restaurants do we need to put on our list? Group of late 20 year olds.

I'll leave the bar selection to some of the other folks, but I believe the old city area is one of the hot areas.

For views of the river, a window table at Calhoun's On The River can't be be beat. Food is ok but in my opinion has declined over the years. Ye Olde Steakhouse in South Knoxville is an institution. Have only eaten there once but remember it being good food. Probably a bit out of the way if you are wanting to stay downtown.

I've asked it before, but where the hell do the masses tailgate at Tennessee games? There's no huge parking lots, fields, or bar strips. So I've always wondered where they are.

Spread out all over. World's Fair Park, the area of campus called Circle Park, the parking lots along Neyland Drive, around the Ag Campus and near the baseball and softball fields. The Fort Sanders area (just off the strip near UT Medical). There's a parking garage between Neyland and Thompson Boling and some people get to the upper level and tailgate up there.

For visiting fans, the garage and the Ag Campus parking lots are mostly season ticket holders with parking passes.

ETA: I'm not a UT alum, but my wife is a Knoxville native, UT alum and season ticket holder. I've been to a ton of games there since 2009 and have been all over the campus on game days. This info is everything I remember from going up there.

Are the bars close enough to campus where we can bar hop throughout the day and walk over to campus/Neyland?

This is going to sound like a smartass answer but it really isn't. I think it depends on how much bar hopping you're going to do, where you do it, and how in shape you are.

The walk from the strip (Cumberland Blvd) isn't too far, maybe a mile - walk Cumberland to Phil Fulmer Way and follow that to the stadium.

From the Old City or Market Square areas it's closer to a mile and a half to two miles.

Just remember Knoxville isn't flat. Some areas of downtown and on campus are, but other areas have a pretty good slope heading toward the river.

Sounds doable! Don't have any fatties in our group.

As someone else mentioned the Old City is where the most bars are located. Parking and shuttles run from there as well but would be a longer walk to the stadium, but still an easy walk with good weather. For restaurants I like Cafe4 and Not Watsons in Market Square.
