Hello, I am a new poster, but I have lurked for many moons. Anyway, over Mardi Gras I will be headed to Universal, and it will be my first time, so I was wondering what you guys suggest that I should do/see. I already have some things planned, but I want to add a few to my itinerary.

Ride rides, see shows, and eat, it's a theme park...

The two parks are not that big. You can see a good bit of it in two days.

Are you bringing kids, if so what age and size.

Both Harry Potter sections are fantastic. Hogwarts Express is worth the trip across. The new Kong ride is good. Men in Black is fun. All the coasters are great. Mythos is a good restaurant for in the parks. Toothsome's Chocolate Emporium is good outside the park. City Walk has a few decent places.

Rode that a couple times last month, pretty good. If you get a change ride it twice and sit on the right side once and the left side once, you'll see different details.

We went for a few days in January. We stayed at the Loews resort that offers the free fast pass. I recommend doing this, but do not upgrade to club level, not worth it. Not much more to say other than that. Go ride all the rides and have fun. We went to Sea World and enjoyed it also.

Don't miss The Mummy ride. It's old, but it's still awesome.

You definitely want to stay at one of their on-site hotels that gives you the free express pass (a couple of their new cheaper hotels don't offer it). If not, then you can still buy one. It will be worth it.
You can pretty much cover every ride in their parks in one day per park.

ETA: Staying on-site also gives you park access an hour before it opens to the general public. Use that time to hit the couple new rides that don't allow the express pass.

A lot of good suggestions in here. I agree on the Mummy Ride. I still say that the original HP ride - Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey - is the best theme park attraction I've ever been on....and most would probably consider me a shill for Disney. But it's simply better than any attraction I've been on at WDW.

Definitely make sure you have the 2-park ticket so you can experience that Hogwart's Express ride. Frozen butter beer is the better version of the beverage...and it's awesome. Hulk coaster was great when I rode it and it's just been refurbished with a new track. I really enjoy the cartoon section of Islands of Adventure just for the little details. The main Jurassic Park boat ride was a bit of a disappointment...but I'd still ride it if you have the time.

The best thing about Universal is that you don't have to pick and choose what you want to ride like you do in Disney. Give yourself a day in each park, and you'll ride every ride that you want to ride. The Express Pass that comes with the on-site hotels (Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, Portofino ) is unlimited - the one you buy is good once on each eligible ride, though they don't always enforce that. For many of the major rides, you can ride them multiple times in just a few minutes. Can't do that at Disney.

This plus figuring out when to do the rides. I can do every ride I want to do in one day in both parks with time to drink. If you avoid the shopping you save a ton of time.

Also, what restaurants do you suggest for lunch. I have a few reservations for dinner already.

The cow fish is good for lunch or dinner. We always left the park for lunch so I don't have any recommendations there.

Confisco at IOA is good for lunch. Otherwise, go to Citywalk.
