Has anyone traveled to Scandinavia? I'm pondering a week-long trip there.

If you've been, which countries in the region did you like best? I'll admit that I don't know too much about the region. Was there plenty to see and do? Was it easy to get around? How was the food and whatnot? Should the cost keep us away?

ETA: Mid 30's - will be with wife.

I've been to Oslo/Bergen, Copenhagen (three times), Stockholm/Uppsala (three times) and Helsinki (twice) and Savonlina (sp). I've also been to Tallin, Estonia twice which is just a 1 1/2hr ferry ride from Helsinki. Copenhagen is my favorite city and Stockholm is my least favorite. I even have a friend from Sweden we stayed with in Stockholm but its still a boring city IMO. There are some great little beach towns out on the archipelago that he took me to. It is very, very, very expensive all over scandinavia although the dollar is stronger now than when I went. For just a week I would concentrate on just 2 places, maybe Copenhagen and Stockholm.

I can't speak for other places but I've been to Stockholm. I'll echo what others have said about it: it's not all that exciting of a place to visit. There's only so much to do there.

That said, it's a beautiful city and the people are very friendly. The Vasa Museum was also cool.

Yes, in the summer. The city is fine but it has never "clicked" for me like Copenhagen.

i remember in july...
more or less the whole city empties.

the locals all go abroad or to their mountain homes or whatever swedes do in those long summer days...

i was there just to start making my way home..
i always wanted to go back..but wasnt there long enough to form any opinions of the city or people.
(i can say..there are cheap flights to barcelona at least)

I've only been to Oslo, but really enjoyed it there. Definitely plan on going back and exploring more of Norway and the entire region.

I’ve been to Copenhagen (x2), Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Tallinn.

Copenhagen is one of my favorite places in the world. I also enjoyed Stockholm and Tallinn. I didn’t like Oslo...it was a concrete jungle of a city but the weather sucked while I was there which didn’t help. I wish I had gone to Bergen instead.

Helsinki has some nice areas and some very rough areas. I was neutral on the experience.

How did you find Estonia?

Copenhagen was really cool in my limited experience and I definitely plan on going back.

Tallin is great. The old town area is the most beautiful I have scene but it can be over run with tourists. There is an area just outside the old town where more locals hang out and that's where we spent most our time. We were there 3 years ago and in 2002 before the tourists discovered it.
