My dad lived in Montreal for 12 years, so visited yearly. He thankfully bought an apartment in the Old Montreal in the 90's for next to nothing and kept it. I plan to spend my older summers there.

Great music, art, food and history. Don't miss it.

Outside of the big cities, what is there to do there in eastern Canada between Toronto and Quebec City? Id love to do an RV trip or road trip from somewhere like Detroit to Quebec City and back.

any rough ideas on how much time is needed for each city?

We stayed four nights in Montreal and I think three in Quebec City. It was a great trip. We rented an apartment in the old section in both cities and both were good locations with restaurants within walking distance. Montreal has a good subway system to get to other parts of the city.

If you like wineries, you might want to take a day trip to Ile d’Orleans. It’s a rural island just minutes from Quebec City.

Our kids are adults so not sure what there is for younger kids. I think there was a pretty cool amusement park near the old port in Montreal but we didn’t go to it.

Its past Quebec City, but we went up to Baie-Saint-Paul. Its a small town with good food and is walkable, and its on the St Lawrence. We used it as a base to go out and hike in the parks. That whole region is really beautiful.

I also know someone who stayed in Saguenay and liked it a lot.
