I’m going to find myself in Hoover, Al for about a weeks time this summer with my three boys. Ages 8-14. Any suggestions of things to do within an hr or so drive? We like hiking and nature. Also, suggestions for places to eat around there would be great as well. Thanks!

Oak Mountain State Park. Red Mountain Park. Top Golf downtown is usually fun with kids. Desoto Caverns, although it has changed names to be politically correct now. Check the Barons schedule if they like watching baseball. It is a great minor league park and you could do Top Golf in the afternoon and the baseball game at night.

Hoover Alabama?? Make sure their cell phones are charged and has a signal. Best I can do for you, and them.

Good list. I would add:

Barber if they have any interest in motorcycles.
Alabama Theater summer movie series.
Autobahn Indoor.
Vulcan.
Southern Museum of Flight.
Tannehill State Park.
Check to see if Legion are in town.

From the things mentioned ... I like Oak Mountain State Park and the Vulcan. As mentioned, LOTs of good restaurants in B'ham. For the size of your group, The Fish Market in Hoover is reasonably priced (check menu online).

Didn't realize that ... how insane.
