Will be there over Chritmas Break. Staying in Encinitas. Plan on doing San Diego Zoo on Christmas Day. Will visit La Jolla and eat at George's at the Cove. Eat breakfast at Pipes. Thinking of tour of Midway carrier. Any thoughts on that? Other ideas?

Tijuana has some pretty good shows from what I hear.

In all seriousness, download StubHub and search events while there. It's what I do while out of town for work and you get the opportunity to check out some good comedy shows, concerts, sporting events, etc.

San Diego Lamp District is a cool area.

My buddy lives there and I happened to stay 5 days through Christmas.

gf and I ate there last fall and we had an ocean view right at dusk. One of the best dinners I've ever had.

I'm DEFINITELY going to check out potato chip rock next month. That looks cool and I've done most the other stuff. Thanks for the post!

Tour Guide Tim has a nice tour for the areas outside of San Diego like La Jolla, Soledad, Glider Port, etc. After tour he dropped us at Little Italy and they have some neat eating places there.

In SD, we skipped the aircraft carrier, you can get a great view of it by just driving up to it but would probably do if I had more time.

Best views back into San Diego and over bay is at Cabrillo National Monument and then down to the tidepools.

Go check out Coronado hotel and they let non guests walk on beach and eat at restaurants.

SD Zoo was unbelievable!

Torrey Pines is way cool if you have a group that doesnt mind a walk- beautiful If staying in Encinitas, go to Swami's and get breakfast and try the Acai smoothie bowl.
if you're into beer, that's a whole other story. There is just so much there. If in Balboa Park I really love the Corner Drafthouse, Underbelly for Ramen is great too.

Just did the USS Midway today. Spent 3 hours there, and it was not nearly long enough. Most of the ship is available for tour. The flight deck has many aircraft. The hangar deck has access to enlisted quarters, officers quarters, and the Admiral's quarters. The tour includes a radio set guided tour.
While there, I coincidentally ran into one of the tour guides who served in the same squadron (HAL-3) at the same time with my dad in Vietnam. They both flew Huey gunships while there. Was very cool!
