A couple locals we talked to lowered my expectations, but we really liked it.

"locals" which probably means they've been in Austin for under 15 years.

Everyone loves to act all sophisticated and say salt Lick is no good. False. It's very good. The brisket isn't Franklins-caliber, but still tasty. As are the ribs. The cobbler is wonderful. Sauce is fantastic and I'm not a sauce guy.

Sounds like a fun time, can't wait to get back soon and do much of the same. Bbq, booze, tubing.

It had great bark on it, which is impressive given how they cook it over an open pit, but it was definitely not in the same league as LaBBQ. Still glad we made the stop. Gave us a chance to do a little cross country drive on our way to tubing.

Surprised you didn't try White Horse in East Austin if you're looking for country music since you were in the area.

Very true about the string lights but I'm a sucker for that too

ETA: seeing above is interesting. Didn’t know that. Cool.

Yea my dad and his grey beard buddy were sitting in lawn chairs drinking beer on south congress a few years ago during the April hot rod car show. Remember thinking the open container has to be bullshite and these dumbasses are getting tickets. Sure enough it is legit.

Would've liked to check that type of establishment out. Old school Texas with real Texans in cowboy boots taking their dancing real seriously. Next time.

Rainey St: An easy walk from our place. Really loved the scene down there. Very cool, organic stretch of bars to check out. A couple food truck parks with great options. This is a must for those visiting.

The gyro truck is a great drunk stop.
