Planning our annual late August "Get out of the heat" and this time is a trip to Canada.
We have 15 days so my original thought of Montreal/Quebec City then to the Maritimes is a squeeze with two travel days from/to Houston. Canada is such a damn big country...it's like traveling to the western US as you have really plan your drive times carefully.

And I have done the Montreal/QC trip twice so I'm going to pass on that trip this time.

So I think we'll travel to the Maritimes and Newfoundland and fly into Halifax as the in/out city.

I searched the travel board for ideas/recommendations but did not see anything...did a Google search and our wonderful TD search function too..

We like the outdoors..hiking, kayaking, historical interests, cool pubs, general exploration..

This board always delivers and thank you in advance for any travel tips..

Road tripped up from Boston to Maine to the Maritimes a couple years ago. Weather was awesome to escape Louisiana summer.

We stayed in Moncton, which was fine (but very vanilla) as it was central to all of the area. Spent time in Nova Scotia, PEI and a little of Newfoundland.

We should have taken the ferry from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia - that drive through Northern Maine and Newfoundland was no joke.

Highly recommend the trip - food, people, weather were all fantastic. Really liked Halifax - we wished we had more time there.

Go to Glenora Distillery on Glen Breton Island. They make single malt whiskey that is very unique and delicious. They have a bed and breakfast as well as a restaurant.

Newfoundland in the summer is great. Been there many times for work. I'm actually in St. John's right now freezing my arse off

As we were coming out of covid, I wanted to fly up to the Maritimes and explore for a couple weeks, but locking down a rental car then was impossible. I found several posts on travel sites from people who had the same issue. So check that out before you get too deep in planning. Hopefully it is better now.
