Posted from the OT lounge for suggestions..
We're usually the type that do spur of the moment trips because of my job and we're looking for something this weekend..2 nights and between $500-$600..kid friendly though!..plan on bringing food for most meals with exception of maybe supper the 2 nights. Maybe a beach or a cabin area with a lake to fish and hike? I liked Shelby farms in Tennessee and we're thinking about that again. From Prairieville to wherever need around a 6 hour drive or less. Looking forward to the suggestions and thanks!

You may want to look at something like these cottages.

I'm not sure what you can find for the amount you'd like to spend. Do I recall that you have a lot of children? Like 6 or something like that?
You might want to reconsider traveling up to 6 hours one way for a trip that's only 2 nights. You'll be on the road a pretty good while.
The cottages at Oak Alley are also neat. Not a whole lot going on there other than tours, but I brought my nieces there several times and they loved it.

Your memory serves you correct..7..we did it before when we went to Memphis, it wasn't bad. We're used to doing quick trips like this..we drove from midnight to get there around 7 am and started our day before checking in at 3 am..the kids slept through the drive. We could go for something closer but need things to do to get out of the hotel other than sleeping since it'll be packed. That's why we are looking for hiking, fishing, or beach. Cabins would be cool in the mountains or a lake.
I think we've decided somewhere around gulf shores and going to the Alabama gulf coast zoo and mini golf.. trying to decide on a breach hotel around hwy 182 and hwy 59...might have friends that come and stay in that RV park too close by...

Y’all are good!
Gulf coast in AL sounds like it fits.

Took years of trial and error to get where we are now with travel! Just had to learn to adapt to my job..the Memphis trip was planned about 12 hours before we left while I was in a hotel away from home..I knew my trip would be a quick trip back so I planned it and surprised my wife..told her to pack the bags and be prepared to leave as soon as I got home..she kept asking where we were hoping so I sent her the YouTube video to the song walking in Memphis..needless to say, everyone was excited and we had a great trip...went to the Peabody hotel to see the ducks, walked to the Lorain motel and had a history lesson, went to the Memphis zoo, then went to Shelby farms...it was a good trip for 2 days!

Texas A&M and Ole Miss have a baseball series this weekend. Might be your only chance to see a quality baseball team in action this year.
