Going to Houston for the Rodeo / Chris Stapleton concert on 3/16 and was looking for some suggestions so during the day. And also any resturant reccomendations, fancy or street food. Thanks

There is a lot to do at the Rodeo area well before the concert/actual rodeo.
The food on grounds is very good and would your best bet for dinner.
Where you are staying and how you are getting to the event can influence your decisions on how you spend your day.
LINK
Bring your patience when you are ready to leave. The clusterfrick that it is leaving the Rodeo makes post LSU game traffic feel like a trip to WalMart.

I disagree with Fred here, but

Is important to know before giving OP a good answer.

Also very true. I would recommend the fannin park and ride for train access.
As far as other things to do, the museum district and zoo are both really close. Cirque is at Toyota center early March. Rockets finishing the season. What are you in to?

If you can help it, don't stay near NRG...not a desirable part of town. Stay downtown or in a boutique hotel (a la Hotel ZaZa).
Restaurants:
- Provisions (Modern/new American)
- Oporto (small plates /tapas)
- Xochi (authentic Mexican)
- The Pass (attached to provisions, best meal ive had in houston)
- Ninfas on Navigation (tex mex)
- Coltivare (italizan/pizza)
- Pit Room (bbq)
- Underbelly (new american)
- Steak 48 (steak house)
Drinks
- Holman draft house
- Heights bier garten
- Mongoose vs. Cobra
- Anvil bar & refuge
- Eight row flint
- the conservatory (works for food too)
Houston also has a great selection of food trucks, I suggest hitting up some of the local breweries as they typically have a street truck presence.
eta. this just stretches the surface of the surface

Go to the black/southern restaurant. I went there after the final four a few years ago, line around the building. Worth it.
According to google there are about 30 black/southern restaurants in Houston
After a few minutes I was able to track it down:
The Breakfast Klub in the Midtown/4th ward area

Drinks:
Little Woodrows
Flying Saucer
The Conservatory
Tex Mex:
El Tiempo
Ninfas
The food at the rodeo is pretty trash besides some tex mex stands. Mostly typical carnival food.
I remember there being some wine area that was pretty cool.

Bars-Kirby Ice House, La Grange, Goodnight Charlie’s, Cottonwood, West Alabama Ice House, Heights Bier Garten, Wooster’s Garden, Alexrad
Food-Tacos Tierra Caliente (taco truck across the street from West Alabama Ice House), Nancy’s Hustle, Riel, El Tiempo, The Pit Room, Goode Company Cantina, Hugo’s for Sunday brunch, Izakaya, Coltivare, Underbelly, Goode Company Seafood, Roost
Eat before you go, there’s not really a whole lot worth wasting calories on at the Rodeo except for booze.
