Not happy with any of this, but probably won't change much travel planning short-term since we have the SW cards, lots of points, and in a few days companion pass through end of 2026. Also flying out of MSY, SW still has a significant number of options to destinations that would otherwise require a connection, and I also prioritize direct flights.

But...In the past I've had status with Delta, United, and SW through a combo of flights and cards, but I can see not having status on any carrier by the end of 2026 and no airline credit cards. Just a few bank cards including one with priority pass is the route we are heading, and flying whatever is cheapest and direct.

Southwest trolling the Mavericks while also updating and clarifying their new bag policy:

Stupid fricking post from their social team… “yeah we did a shitty thing to our customers, but at least it’s not as bad as another company in a completely different industry”

I’ve got way too many SW points after years upon years of flying on them… need to figure out how to move those points before they begin to devalue them.

Southwest is based out of Dallas. I understand how tone deaf the message is but I also understand they are talking more to their local population in this regard.

And over 90% of their customers don’t live in Dallas.

It was fricking stupid and a slap to the face of their customers.

I’d be willing to bet they reverse course by the fall.

I've been looking on X at some of their replies and man people are pissed at them. Not just a few, a ton of people saying they're going to change airlines, cancel their credit cards, etc.

I turned into a free agent about a year ago and look for schedule, cost, free carry-on/cost of luggage if required (like skis/golf clubs), and then airline. In FL, Southwest has a pretty big presence but I have a feeling these policy changes make a huge dent in their Orlando crowds. I used to drive 2 hours to MCO for some of my ski trips, but no way I'm doing that if I'll have to pay an extra $70 roundtrip just for a single bag. Might as well leave from a closer airport if that's the case and I'd still have to connect. They may still get the family business of groups going to MCO, but I'd have to think the individual travelers like myself in this area aren't going to do that drive any longer for even less benefits

Yup, so their snarky Luka post was stupid.

SW and United have hubs here, so its one of those two. I had switched from SW to United about 2yrs ago due to their boarding bullshite and devaluing A-list preferred customers... Had 1k for last 2yrs but made a run at companion pass last year due to a ton of family trips this year. HUGE MISTAKE. I should have stayed with United and kept my 1k status. I'm sitting on over a million RR points right now.

These SW changes suck. That said with 1 million RR points there is no reason to switch immediately. Use the SW card to get 1 free bag for everyone on the booking and use those point.

I'm in a similar situation, tons of points and companion pass till end of 26. I'm not going to immediately stop booking SW, but I am going to use all of the points and card benefits by the end of 2026.

You went out of your way to fly out of an airport filled with kids and their retarded parents? Wow.
